Kirby Stephen is situated at the head of the Eden Valley between the river and the border with Scotland and is best known as a mecca for walkers of the Pennines, the Lake District and the Coast to Coast walk as well as cyclists on the Cumbria Cycle Way. Choose from a good selection of bed and breakfasts and guesthouses and set out on one of the many footpaths and trails for a walk to suit your own pace. Each May there is a walking and countryside festival including graded and guided walks that include castles, nature reserves and more. There’s also a 1-½ mile long garden trail starting in the town centre during August. So book in to a B&B and get out toexplore the fantastic local landscape including Mallerstang, the Howgills, and the Westmorland Fells.
