Carlisle sits on the English/Scottish border and today it’s the main shopping, commercial and industrial centre in northern Cumbria and southern Scotland. There’s a good selection of bed and breakfast and guesthouse accommodation. From your chosen B&B there is much to see and do in and around Carlisle including a visit to the magnificent medieval Castle, the Border Regiment Museum, the citadel built by Henry VIII, Hadrian’s Wall, the Cathedral and its 14th century stained glass window, and the Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery. It is also worth visiting the Spring Show in May, the Festival of Nations in June, the Great Fair in August, take a trip on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway or a guided walking tour around the town.
