This bed and breakfast provides elegant accommodation on the edge of the Cotswolds just 6 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon.

Description

The house itself is a historic Victorian farmhouse built in 1856 for a bride who didn't want it! Featuring spacious comfortable rooms and retaining many original Victorian features, Winton House provides a warm and welcoming ambience. A pine staircase and stripped pine doors add to the comfort factor.

Situated in a quiet area of outstanding natural beauty, the house overlooks Meon Hill which is steeped in witchcraft and folklore.

Pretty Upper Quinton sits amid beautiful countryside on the edge of the Cotswolds. The hamlet boasts a large green with no through traffic. Its sister village, Lower Quinton features an impressive church steeple which is a landmark for miles around. The local 16th century village inn was once owned by Henry VIII and serves excellent food.

Local Attractions

Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace, is 6 miles to the north east. As well as the theatres, cinema, and the many historic buildings there are plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs to entertain the visitor.

The National Trust Hidcote Gardens is just 3 miles up into the Cotswolds from Winton House. The gardens and manor house are open from Easter to the October school break. One of the autumn highlights is a maize maze - a real challenge for even the most experienced navigator.

Just under 6 miles to the south lies the Chipping Campden, one of the gems of the Cotswolds. There are many architectrural treasures in the main street and guided tours are available. There is also a good choice of restaurants and pubs. There is good walking in and around the town and Campden is at the northern end of the Cotswold Way.

There are many Cotwold villages within easy driving distance of Winton House. Broadway is only 9 miles away and Stanton, Snowshill, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-0n-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and the Slaughters are all worth a visit.

Warwick Castle, 17 miles, is one of the best preserved medieval castles in England. Open every day of the year except Christmas day there are dungeons and armories, jousting demonstrations and splendid riverside grounds to explore.

Location

The nearest motorway is the M40 - leave at junction 15 and follow the sign to Stratford - then continue south through the town.

Take the A3400, south from Stratford. Approximately one mile down the road, take a right turn on to the B4632 (signposted to Broadway, Mickleton). Carry on for 6 miles, turn left for Upper Quinton. The farmhouse is then a ½ mile on the left.
