Bed and Breakfast Description

 

A warm welcome now awaits you at the de Morgan family home. Reputedly one of the oldest permanently inhabited castles in Scotland, Sir Walter Scott, a friend of the 8th Earl, often stayed here. During one of his visits he wrote the novel "The Antiquary", where the castle is reputedly depicted as the legendary Castle of Knockwhinnock with the central character based upon a neighbour during that period.

Situated in Scotland's kitchen garden all produce used here is of the freshest and highest standard. Who can resist a famous Arbroath Smokie for breakfast?

In recent years the castle has been carefully restored and maintained to form a magnificent home of great character and historic importance. It is now a haven of hospitality and peace.

 

Arbroath Attractions

 
We are within easy driving distance of the beautiful Angus Glens, where you can see eagles, buzzards, deer and some of the most striking scenery in Scotland.

Leave the car behind for the day and walk along the highest cliffs on the Angus coast, just half an hour from our door. See the Puffins and Gannets fly in from the Bass Rock, a round trip of 100 miles a day, catch sight of dolphins leaping in the bay. Descend to the wild and unspoilt sandy beaches of Lunan Bay, picnic in the dunes or walk along to Red Castle, here time and tide are taking their toll right before your eyes.
