Book/Enquire
An historic medieval manor house in the heart of the Somerset countryside, in an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' just ten minutes from historic Bath. A rare example of the English medieval manor, the Manor House was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and is a family home, full of quirks, atmosphere and history. Relaxed and unpretentious; more like friends dropping in than guests.

Description

Every comfort you would expect to find is here, with an interior style that is elegant, with a definite sense of fun, as well as those finishing touches put together with the thought and care you would expect from a private host. In the guest rooms, sumptuous fabrics, luxurious four-poster beds and interesting antiques come together to create a unique style.

The House benefits from its very own restaurant, The Fig Tree, which is open to guests and non-residents for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Occupying the 19th-century Gentlemen's Billiard Room, The Fig Tree Restaurant offers an eclectic menu which uses the freshest local produce and it is rapidly acquiring an excellent reputation for fine dining served in elegant yet informal surroundings. Guests are invited to bring their own alcohol for which there is no corkage charge.

Local Attractions

For Culture and Art, Bath has dozens of museums, and its streets are a living museum of Georgian architecture.

For History, the Roman Baths is one of the most complete ancient sites in the world, much of it unchanged for 2000 years.

Why not explore the city with one of the many walking tours on offer?

The countryside around Bath is among Britain's finest. Visit the gorgeous villages of Castle Combe or Lacock, in which no house is less than 150 years old.

Location

FROM BATH CITY CENTRE
Follow signs to University of Bath, which takes you up Bathwick Hill.
At the top of the hill as the road flattens out, you will see the University entrance on your left. Ignore this and continue along the road to take the first major left turn which is about a mile beyond the university entrance. This left hand turn is down a hill called Brassnocker!
Three-quarters of the way down the hill is a little crossroads with a sign to the rightto Monkton Combe. Turn right here and drive into village passing the school on the left.
Take first left after school just before the village pub
The Wheelwrights Arms, into a road called Mill Lane.
Drive to bottom of lane (20 seconds) and continue down hill on a tarmaced drive marked Private.
Ours is the second house, set back behind The Old Mill.
It has a circular gravel drive around a weeping willow tree and a sign on the left gatepost.
