Description

This is one of the most beautifully situated guesthouses in England and a stroll from the house can provide some of the most stunning views in the country.

Standing at 1400ft above sea level in 15 acres of private grounds, the house immediately adjoins the Long Mynd and 6000 acres of National Trust Land - an area of outstanding natural beauty. There is also an enormous amount of wildlife here - many rare birds, foxes and badgers and wild ponies and sheep graze outside the house.

The origin of the guesthouse was as a Crofter's cottage, dating back at least 200 years. The house has always been called by the same name, although throughout the 1800s was often spelt "Gin-Lye". As far as the meaning is concerned, we know that "lye" means meadow and can only presume that the "Gin" part may have had something to do with Gin traps being laid in the meadows here. Nevertheless, the cottage today is something of a landmark up in the hills - particularly for walkers who know that they are nearly home when we are in sight! The property had been derelict for nearly 15 years before the Tory family rebuilt and extended the house in the 1970s and it has now opened its doors to guests for more than 18 years. As a family run business you can be assured of a warm welcome into our very special home.

Local Attractions

South Shropshire is still one of the most undiscovered places in England today, which makes a pleasant surprise for visitors to the area. The cottage is situated very centrally to the whole region and below are some of our favourite things to do and places to visit in the area.
Powis Castle and gardens
Ironbridge Gorge museums
Stokesay Castle
The award winning, Judges Lodging
The Dingle Garden & Nursery
Lingen Garden
Burford House Garden
Wollerton Old Hall Garden

Location

From Shrewsbury:
Take the A49 south towards Ludlow and Leominster and follow the road for around 10 miles.
After the village of “Leebotwood” (around 1 mile) take the turning right onto the B5477 which is signposted to “All Stretton”.
Follow this road into All Stretton village (around 1 mile). As you enter the village, you will see a red telephone box on your right hand side, where you should turn right onto “Castle Hill”.
Follow this road which is steep and winding for 1 mile (although it seems much further) and the guesthouse is on the left hand side.
