Bed and Breakfast Description

 

The Old Excise House is the former Excise Officers house for nearby Laphroaig distillery on the beautiful Isle of Islay. You will be assured of a warm welcome, good local food and spectacular sea views in this B&B accommodation.

Within walking distance of the world famous Islay whisky distilleries of Ardbeg, Lagavulin and Laphroaig. Unwind and sample famous hebridean hospitality.

The rooms are en-suite with sea views, egyptian cotton sheets and towels, satellite TV, wifi, locally made toiletries and a welcome tray with home baking. There is a guest sitting room/breakfast room with woodburning stove, maps books and games.

Your host Ron is a PGA golf professional and in addition to providing tuition at the nearby Islay Machrie Links can arrange escorted golftours of the region. The house is situated to make the most of the island with golf, distillery and island tours, wildlife, shooting, fishing, pony trekking and cycling all nearby.

 

Isle of Islay Attractions

 
Historic sites on Islay include the Kildalton Celtic Cross, Finlaggan lord of the Isles, standing stones and the american monument on the Oa. There are numerous beautiful beaches teaming with wildlife and fantastic views. Plenty of activities can be arranged including golf, fishing, walks, birdwatching, boat trips, shooting, cycling, wildlife tours, pony trekking and whisky distillery tours.

There are RSPB reserves at The Oa and Loch Gruinart.

Ferry sails to Islay from Kennacraig on Kintyre peninsula, about 2.5 hours by road from Glasgow. A bus runs from Glasgow to the ferry port.
Flybe fly from Glasgow to Islay.
The Old Excise House is 1 mile from Port Ellen ferry terminal and 6 miles from the airport.
