Dads Army Museum, tours and events

This museum shows the story of Dad`s Army in Thetford and the town`s Home Guard.
For nine years from 1968 Thetford became Walmington on Sea,home of Dad`s Army.

The British Trust for Ornithology Gardens and Nature Reserve

The British Trust for Ornithology has created a quiet retreat in the grounds of a 12th Century Nunnery in Thetford with a series of beautiful, wildlife-friendly gardens. The adjoining nature reserve attracts a variety of wildlife, including deer, otter and over 70 breeding bird species.

Thetford Forest

Thetford Forest is Britain’s largest lowland pine forest. It makes a great day out for all the family. You’ll be amazed at just how much there is to do in one of the most beautiful and tranquil settings in England.
If you want to be active there’s plenty to choose from at High Lodge Forest Centre. You could follow miles of waymarked walking trails through the forest and keep an eye out for the wildlife, hire a bike and do some cycling. try out the squirrel’s maze (one of the largest in Europe), visit the adventure playground for younger children or if you’re really feeling brave, try your hand on the high ropes course - not for the faint-hearted!

Thetford Priory

The extensive remains of one of the most important East Anglian monasteries, the Cluniac Priory of Our Lady of Thetford. Founded in the early 12th century, it owed much of its prosperity to a miraculous appearance of the Virgin Mary, whose statue here was discovered to conceal relics of saints. Survivals include the lower walls of the church and cloister, along with the impressive shell of the priors' lodging and an almost complete 14th-century gatehouse. Grime's Graves - prehistoric flint mine

Grime's Graves is the only Neolithic flint mine open to visitors in Britain. A grassy lunar landscape of over 400 shafts, pits, quarries and spoil dumps.
