Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Willow Cottage is a turn-of-the-century cottage in a quiet country lane set on the edge of the South Downs National Park, about 20 minutes walk from the South Downs Way. We are approximately 4 miles from the historic town of Lewes, 10 miles from bustling Brighton and 45 minutes from Gatwick. We have ample off-road parking.

For guests we have a double bedroom and single bedroom available for b&b with a private bathroom. The rooms are small but cosy. Both have tea and coffee-making facilities and the double room has a colour tv.

 

Lewes Attractions

 
Lewes, the fascinating county town of East Sussex, is packed with traditional and contemporary small shops, secondhand book stores, art galleries and antique and junk shops. For history enthusiasts, there’s Lewes Castle, Anne of Cleeves House and Lewes Priory. The famous Harveys Brewery sits beside the River Ouse where they have been brewing since 1790.

Sussex is packed with wonderful places to visit. There are National Trust properties and gardens: Alfriston Clergy House, Bateman’s (home of Rudyard Kipling), Bodiam Castle, Monk’s House, Nymans, Sheffield Park Garden and Wakehurst Place. There’s also Borde Hill Gardens, Great Dixter, Michelham Priory and Charleston, home of the Bloomsbury set.

For opera lovers there’s Glyndebourne; and for train lovers the Bluebell Railway and Lavender Line and for a family day out don’t miss the wonderful Drusillas zoo.

And then there’s the coastline . . . miles of famous sights. Walk the amazing Seven Sisters between Beachy Head and Cuckmere Haven. Or visit Brighton’s beaches, pier, Royal Pavilion and famous lanes.

DIRECTIONS TO WILLOW COTTAGE FROM LEWES

Take the A275 north from Lewes towards East Grinstead. Approx 3 miles from Lewes, at Cooksbridge, there’s a level crossing and you need to turn left 100 yds before the level crossing, signposted to East Chiltington. Go up the lane for about a mile and a half and there’s a railway bridge, go under the bridge and in 100 yds there’s a road junction, bear left. We’re just there on the left – a cream painted building with a five bar gate.
