Bed and Breakfast Description

Bryn Derwen Guest House, bed and breakfast, Conwy, North Wales is a spacious semi-detached house built in the late Victorian period. It is set well back from the roadway on rising ground and enjoys a commanding position with good views towards Conwy mountain.

It is ideally situated just a short walk (800m) from the medieval walled town of Conwy, a World Heritage Site, with easy access to local attractions and public transport services.
The North Wales coastal resorts, including the Isle of Anglesey, are readily accessible, as is the Snowdonia National Park with its magnificent mountain and lake scenery.
Comfortable, stylish well-appointed ensuite accommodation is complemented by an excellent breakfast

Conwy Attractions

The town of Conwy is dominated by its castle and town walls, both of which are under the care of CADW (Welsh Historic Monuments and Heritage) and are open to the public. The castle was built by King Edward I of England between 1283 and 1287 A.D.

As well as the castle and walls, the town also has two well preserved Elizabethan houses which are open to the public. Plas Mawr (CADW) is a town house, or mansion, built by the wealthy and influential Robert Wynne in 1576. Aberconwy House (National Trust) is a rare example of a stone and timber merchant’s dwelling.

The town has a busy and bustling harbour as well as a deep water marina nearby. The quayside of the harbour is the location of Britain’s smallest house – measuring only 10ft x 4ft 2ins and of which the last occupant was over 6ft tall! The house was originally built as a fisherman’s cottage.

The former gateway to the town from the East was via the suspension bridge completed by Thomas Telford in 1826 to replace the former ferry crossing. The bridge and its toll house are under the care of the National Trust and are open to the public. Adjacent to Telford’s bridge is the tubular bridge built by Robert Louis Stevenson in the mid 19th century to carry his new railway over the Conwy estuary.

The area surrounding Conwy is rich in places to visit and things to do. The National Trust’s renowned Bodnant Garden with some 80 acres of spectacular formal and informal areas and shrubberies is only about 3 miles away. There are mountains to climb, placid lakes to visit and county and riverside walks to enjoy. Within easy reach there are stately homes and castles to visit such as Penrhyn Castle (National Trust), Plas Newydd (National Trust), Bodelwyddan Castle, Caernarfon Castle (CADW), Beaumaris Castle (CADW) and other visitor attractions besides.
