Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Our accommodation is finished to a very high quality, refurbished in the last few months (April 2009). Each room has a wealth of exposed beams reflecting the age of the property and all include TVs, DVDs, MP3 connection, tea/coffee making facilities and hair dryers.

Andrew Knight is an experienced local chef who was brought up in Hertfordshire. His first years in the kitchen were spent training under the guidance of Michel Bourdin, Angela Hartnett and Gordon Ramsay. He went on to train under Jean Christophe Novelli and Phil Thompson at Auberge du Lac. From his experience at these top restaurants he has earned a very good reputation, developing his own unique culinary style, championing seasonal and local ingredients.

Newly appointed as Head Chef at the Brocket Arms, Andrew will use the best seasonal, local ingredients for his exceptional cooking. Creating intelligently simple and elegant food with exquisite flavours. His regularly changing menu will combine unpretentious modern British flavours to showcase the best produce in Hertfordshire.

 

Welwyn Attractions

 
Ayot St. Lawrence is one of the loveliest and historic villages in Hertfordshire. The Brocket Arms was originally the monastic quarters for the Norman church until the Reformation. Legend has it that a priest was tried and hanged in the building and that it has been haunted by the affable character ever since.

In the village the attractive georgian Ayot House was once famous as Britain’s only silk farm. The ruined Norman church was replaced in 1778 by the existing Palladian church. Ayot St. Lawrence is well known as the home of George Bernard Shaw, who lived there for 40 years until his death in 1950. His house, Shaw's Corner, now belongs to the National Trust and is open from March to November. All enquiries to The Brocket Arms.
