Bed and Breakfast Description

Our two purpose built ensuite bed and breakfast rooms were recent additions to the main house as part of a major renovation project completed in 2004. The house is located in the historic centre of Oakham with easy access to a range of high quality restaurants, pubs, shops and the railway station.

We have one double (king size) and one twin bedded room each with its own ensuite bathroom and TV. Both rooms are non smoking and each room opens out on to its own patio. The rooms have their own entrance via the gravel drive to the right of the main house and off street parking is provided in the drive. Breakfast is served in the garden room.

You are welcome to park on the gravel drive to the right of the house. If you park behind somebody please leave your car keys with either Dane or Joyce. The spaces immediately outside the house are residents only parking until 6.00 pm. The opposite side if free for anybody. There is also a pay and display car park opposite the church.

Oakham Attractions

We provide a perfect base for working in or exploring the rural beauties of our small traditional county of Rutland with our large man made lake, Rutland Water, lying in the heart of the county and only a five-minute drive away.

Oakham is a small traditional bustling English market town and was mentioned in the Domesday book in 1086. The historic heart of Oakham clusters around the Market Place, just off the High Street and here you will find the 400 year old Butter Cross where dairy products were once sold, the stocks, unusual for having five holes and the old town pump. To the north of the square is Castle Lane leading to Oakham's Norman Castle where a collection of horseshoes given by visiting aristocracy over the centuries are displayed in the Great Hall.

B&B Location

From the South using the A1:
Take the A606 junction from the A1 signposted to Oakham, ten miles or so north of Peterborough and well south of Grantham. Follow this road for about 9 miles passing through the villages of Empingham and Whitwell and the Barnsdale Lodge hotel on your right. You will then go down a hill with a view of Rutland Water on your left. Follow this road into Oakham until you reach a small roundabout where you take the right hand exit. After about 150 metres you will reach a second small roundabout where you go straight over and up the main street in the town. Continue along this road passing Boots the chemists on the left, go through a set of pedestrian traffic lights and then turn right at the next junction (Church St.) Go along Church street until you see the church on your right and a junction on your left. The road to the left is Northgate with the Wheatsheaf pub on your left as you turn. Number 17 is on the right about 300 metres along, just beyond the right hand bend in the road, the spreading chestnut tree and the BT exchange!

Nearest Railway Station: Oakham  (0.1  Miles)
