Bed and Breakfast Description

Milden Hall offers bed and breakfast accommodation in the hall and self catering accommodation in a restored Tudor barn. It is peacefully surrounded by ancient wildflower meadows and beautiful barns, walled garden, hedged countryside and historic landscape.

Breakfast (bantams eggs, home-grown sausages, fruit compote) and occasional dinners (for 4+ adults minimum) are taken in the large sunny hall living room (right), warmed in winter by a large woodburner, and well stocked with books, maps and local information.

All bedrooms have spectacular views across ancient wildflower meadows, hedged Suffolk countryside and our walled garden. They contain period furniture, beautiful pictures, books, magazines, flowers and potions (and TV). All bedrooms share one spacious bath/shower room, another loo and access to a second bathroom at peak times.

Sudbury Attractions

As keen conservationists and historians we take great pride in managing our 500 acre arable farm, happy pigs and bantams, our wildlife habitats and archaeological sites as carefully as possible. Our family spend hours armed for tree planting, pond dipping and late night mothing.

Walking further afield: Lovely routes pre-planned - short wanders around our farm or longer routes that take in medieval villages (Lavenham, Bildeston, Kersey), unspoilt countryside, pubs and churches.

Cycling: Borrow our bikes and venture out along local quiet country lanes on our pre-planned routes for varying fitness and different interest.

Orienteering: Routes planned for family orienteering with clues and compass.

Family activity pack: 50+ ideas of things to do on the farm including seasonally appropriate scavenge hunts, tree hugging, leaf sowing, journey sticks, meadows in a matchbox, pond dipping, smelly cocktails.

Tennis: We have a lovely new tennis court which you are welcome to use.

Summer garden games at Milden: We have badminton, croquet and boules. Hire in bouncy castles, assault courses and garden games including sumo wrestling, quoits, giant chess. (Photo shows children playing rounders)

Painting: Bring your palette and easel and find a quiet place to paint ancient buildings, trees and flowers.

Tutor-led environmental activities for families: Book an hour or two with Juliet - woodland games, pond activities, nature detective bug hunts, wildflowers and woven garlands, willow weaving, drawing or painting, or a simple guided nature walk.

B&B Location

There are two entrances (both signed with wooden signs):

Front drive is on a sharp bend (and quite easy to miss, especially in the dark) on the B1115 between Milden cross-roads and Little Waldingfield village.

Back drive is opposite telephone box in village of Milden (go down ½ mile drive bearing right at every track-fork opportunity, through a farmyard).

If asking for directions/telling taxis emphasize this is The Hall in the village of Milden and not Mildenhall town, which is north of Bury St Edmunds!

Accessible from Harwich and Stanstead airport. Easy driving distance to Cambridge (1hr), Bury St Edmunds (30 mins), Norwich (75 mins), Suffolk coast (75 mins).

Nearest Railway Station: Sudbury  (5.3  Miles)
