Bed and Breakfast Description

Penrhos B&B is surrounded by lush countryside with breathtaking views of the Black Mountains and up onto Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in southern Britain. Penrhos is a unique B&B that offers more than the norm.

The completely self-contained 18th century Dairy has been renovated to provide 2 well appointed double en-suite rooms, named after the 2 highest peaks in the Brecon Beacons. Both rooms have guest regulated central heating with TV and DVD viewed either from the sofa or from the bed. Hot drinks, homemade biscuits and snack making facilities are available.

Corn Du is a ground floor double bedroom with spacious wet-room shower. Wide access doors make this room wheelchair friendly. Pen y Fan is an upstairs oak beamed double room with extra bed and spacious shower. Sitting/Dining area has a wood burning stove and french doors opening onto a private courtyard garden. Shepherds Hut is a custom built reproduction of a traditional hill shelter as used by shepherds on the South Downs in the 1800s. A wood burning stove, sofa and french doors make the hut a great venue for fine evenings that turn a little chilly later.

We use naturally produced fruit, vegetables and meat from the smallholding. Bread, cakes, desserts and preserves are all homemade. Meals are served at a time to suit you in the dining area of the dairy. Rosemary is happy to cater for any dietary requirements. Breakfast - Traditional welsh breakfast: sausages, bacon, duck or hen eggs, mushrooms and tomato or scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Cereals, porridge, juices, fresh and stewed fruit with yoghurt are always available. Dinner - 3 course evening meals available by prior arrangement, see sample menu below. BBQ baskets – snacks, lamb or pork chops, sausages, salad, potatoes, bread or foccacia and dessert - provided either in the courtyard or at the Shepherds Hut in the orchard.

Brecon Attractions

Observatory: Penrhos is a great location for an astronomical observatory with dark skies and good horizons. The telescope is a 30cm Meade LX200 with “go-to” computer control to enable visitors to see many objects in a short space of time. If the skies are clear, visitors (including children) can spend time in the Penrhos observatory with David seeing the celestial highlights of the night.

Walking: from Penrhos there is direct acces to many walks of various grades and distances, including to the top of Pen Y Fan. 10 minutes across the fields brings you to the Craig Cerrig Gleisiad nature reserve. Routes can be recommended and maps provided. We are keen for visitors to look around our gardens, vegetable and fruit growing areas and wander over the fields to see the lake and recently planted woodland.

Bicycles can be hired and repaired in Brecon. We have garaging for your bike, a hose for washing down and tools to help with repairs. We are close to the Taff cycle trail and many other mountain bike routes.

Horse-riding: for those trekking the Beacons by horse or pony, stabling is available at our neighbours 5mins walk from Penrhos. There are several pony trekking centres nearby.

Local Amenities. The nearest pub/restaurant is in Libanus, 2 miles away and Brecon with its many cafes, pubs and restaurants is 6 miles. There are also several excellent restaurants a short drive away. The Brecon Beacon’s Mountain Centre with information about the area is 2 miles away. Cinema, theatre, museums, historic cathedral, swimming pool, leisure centre & canal cruises/boat hire are all in Brecon.
