Bed and Breakfast Description |
| |
|
Willey Lane Farm provides 4 star bed & breakfast in en suite rooms in an 18th Century stone and timber farmhouse located in the North Herefordshire countryside in the Welsh Marches between Lingen, Herefordshire and Presteigne, Powys. We are approximately 10 miles from Kington.
For walkers, we are close to the Lingen Loop of the Mortimer Trail, close to the Herefordshire Trail (Section 5) where it curves round Noisy Hall, near Lingen, and Offa's Dyke passes through the nearby town of Knighton.
Willey Lane Farm has about 72 acres of grassland, currently grazed by a neighbour's sheep and cattle, and about 22 acres of woodland, mainly oak and in a single block, at the head of a valley overlooking the village of Lingen.
This is the unspoilt border country of North West Herefordshire, away from traffic yet convenient for access to the towns and villages of Herefordshire, Powys and Shropshire, The Mortimer Trail, The Herefordshire Trail and Offa's Dyke footpath.
Our accommodation is all en suite with each room having an attached bathroom containing a shower, washbasin and toilet. Each bedroom has co-ordinating decor, tea and coffee making facilities, colour television, radio, hair dryer and local information.
There is a guest sitting room which is heavily beamed and with an inglenook fireplace. Traditional English breakfast is served in the conservatory which has a comfortable sitting area and lovely views of the Herefordshire countryside. Gluten free breakfasts can be served on request. WiFi broadband is available within the main house but not in the conservatory.
Guest parking is in the courtyard well off the road, and we can offer secure storage for bicycles as well as a sheltered area for boots and walking gear. |

Kington Attractions |
| |
Lingen is a small village with a good community spirit and a pub, The Royal George, which serves food. Presteigne, formerly the county town of Radnorshire, is a small town with a medieval heart and several public houses and restaurants, two banks and a cash machine.
We are just 3 miles from the Mortimer Trail, the 30 mile linear walk from Ludlow to Kington, with several loopwalks, such as the Lingen Loop, to which we can offer a delivery and collection service for our guests. The Herefordshire Trail passes about half a mile from our door where it swings round Noisy Hall.
The delights of mid Wales are within an hours drive: The Elan Valley Dams, Welshpool with its steam railway, the National Trust owned Powys Castle, the Spaceguard Centre (formerly Powys Observatory) at Knighton, and of course the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. In 30 minutes by country lanes is Ludlow (population 10000) situated on the river Teme, with wonderful Georgian architecture, a castle and a commanding Parish Church.
Ludlow enjoys a year round calendar of events, including the Summer Festival (June/July) where Shakespeare's plays are performed against the backdrop of the castle, large craft shows, the increasingly popular Food & Drink (September), the market days and the specialist weekend markets. The ambiance of this delightful town is in its streets and walks along the Teme and in the surrounding countryside. Ludlow is also famous for its restaurants.
We are also centrally placed to visit Herefordshire. The black and white villages are a painter's dream in an area of peaceful lanes and fruit growing, Hereford with its cathedral and Mappa Mundi, Leominster with its antique shops, and Hay on Wye, the town of books.
There are a good selection of pubs and restaurants in the vicinity, including The Stagg at Titley (the only Michelin starred pub in England) to finish off a perfect day in an area having a wealth of attractions to suit all tastes. |

Directions from Mortimer's Cross on the A4110: Turn to the west on to the B4362 at Mortimer's Cross and follow this road to Combe where the road crosses the river Lugg. Immediately after crossing the river turn right signposted Kinsham and Lingen and follow the road to Lingen. In Lingen, after passing the Royal George public house, the road swings left, right, left and again turns right at a junction with a small road on the left signed Willey. Take the road to Willey, forking to the left at an unsigned junction with an old hut on the right hand side, and after about 1.5 miles Willey Lane Farm is on the left half way up a steepish hill.
Directions from Presteign: Alternatively, if the B4362 is taken from Mortimer's Cross to Presteigne you will come to a roundabout on the outskirts of the town. Go straight ahead at this roundabout, signed Judge's lodgings, and follow the road until you come to a mini roundabout. Again go straight ahead and you will come to Presteigne High Street, which is No Entry from this end. Turn right down Broad Street, signed Tourist Information, and continue all the way down to the bridge over the river Lugg. Follow this road, bearing to the right, signed Willey and Boresford, at the signpost to Norton and then left, signed Willey and Boresford, at the junction to Stapleton, up the hill and just over the top is a sign to Lingen on the right. Turn right towards Lingen and half way down the hill (0.4 mile) Willey Lane Farm is on the right.
