Knighton Attractions

Knighton a quiet, unassuming town half-hidden by the hills in the Teme valley is easily reached by road or rail with the Heart of Wales Line running through the Town, linking Swansea with Shrewsbury. Knighton is in an area of truly outstanding natural beauty and is a good place to stay whether you are striding the length of Offa's Dyke or exploring the surrounding area.

Knighton is on the midpoint of the Offa's Dyke Path National Trail, a focal point for the walking & hiking communities. The Dyke an ancient earthwork, built toward the end of the 8th Century by King Offa to separate the Kingdoms of Mercia from Wales. The Offa's Dyke Association are an independent voluntary organisation that provides information and other services to people who enjoy hiking and walking and promote and protect the 1200-year-old Offa's Dyke Path, a National Trail of 177-miles (285km) from Chepstow to Prestatyn, some 80 miles of The Dyke is still traceable today.

The Glyndwr's Way National Trailoffers some of Mid-Wales` finest scenery, the 135-mile (217km) Trail offers those seeking long distance walking for a day or weekend. Glyndwr's Way was granted National Trail status in millennium year 2000. Its name derives from the early fifteenth century folk hero Owain Glyndwr, who won significant battles close to the route and held a Welsh Parliament in Machynlleth. Glyndwr's Way begins in Knighton, on the English border, linking with the celebrated Offa`s Dyke Path. Running in a giant horse-shoe, it passes small market towns and quiet villages, traversing Wales to Machynlleth near the Dyfi estuary and back again across Wales to Welshpool, close to the English border.
