Bed and Breakfast Description

Over the past 25 years we have built up a reputation of providing warm and friendly hospitality, making your visit with us at Lower Haythog Farm the ideal place to stay and eat all year round. We have had reviews and recommendations in quite a few national newspapers, including the 'Daily Mail', as well as being commended and written about in various other publications such as "Pembrokeshire's Historic Houses", "Wales' Great Little Places 2000", "The Red Book - Eat Well in Wales" and "A Guide to Garden Visits".

Lower Haythog is very old, but you won't find anything crumbling here, except possibly the rhubarb and the only leeks you'll discover are those invitingly placed on the large farmhouse table. Lower Haythog is a 250 acre working dairy farm, free from traffic and set in its own surroundings, 5 miles north of Haverfordwest. An attractive conservatory leads you into a welcoming lounge which retains its original charm with its exposed stonework, wooden beams and a brightly burning log fire. En- suite bedrooms, T.V. complimentary tea trays and full central heating for utmost comfort.

Nesta's cooking, herself being an amateur cook, is imaginative and delicious. Its traditionally based, but with tasty improvements using recipes that Nesta has largely invented herself. There is no set menu at Lower Haythog Farm and the evenings here have the atmosphere of a lively and friendly dinner party. But please remember that we are unlicensed so you'll have to bring your own wine! Typical meals in winter time include starters such as lentil and parsnip soup, followed by main courses of filling chicken and leek pie, or lamb, cumin, and apricot stew. During the summer, salmon features prominently, with dishes like smoked salmon pate, or whole salmon poached with a rustic tomato sauce, all served with freshly picked mange tout, and tasty celeriac and sprout bake.

Haverfordwest Attractions

Pembrokeshire, known in early times as "Gwlad Hud A Lledrith"is a place of immense beauty and character. Whatever you are lookiWelsh Dragon.ng for, you’ll find it in Pembrokeshire, from family attractions, such as the nearby Scolton Manor Country Park, and the popular theme park of Oakwood, to Arts & Crafts, and adventure sports, its all here. The stunning rugged coastline of Pembrokeshire boasts fantastic views, as well as over 60 beaches, with over half of these being award winners.

From sweeping, golden sandy beaches to small sheltered coves, Pembrokeshire has it all! In stark contrast to these beaches there are the windswept and mysterious Preseli Hills with their numerous valleys, ancient and luscious woodlands full of wildlife.

Historical importance abounds in this part of Wales, with a wealth of historic houses, gardens, castles and ruins, dating back many centuries. The Pentre Ifan Cromlech burial chamber near the town of Newport, holds major historical and cultural importance as it was made from the same local Preseli 'Bluestones' which the famous stone circle of Stonehenge was constructed from many millennia ago.
