Bed and Breakfast Description

All the bedrooms are individually furnished with colour television and tea and coffee making facilities. All rooms are en-suite. There also is a ground floor bedroom that can be used as a quiet hideaway for a couple or makes a lovely room for a family of four.

We provide as many ‘creature’ comforts as possible to make it easier to bring your children on a visit to York. Our family room is on the ground floor and consists of two rooms. The first room has a double bed and then you walk through to a smaller room with twin beds leading to the en-suite shower room with toilet and washbasin.

We have tried our best to equip the room with child friendly facilities i.e. small toilet seat, box to reach the loo and washbasin and lower coat hooks and we can provide a travel cot, although we ask you to bring your own cot bedding if possible. We have provided a TV with DVD player for your children to bring their favourite DVD’s and a CD player plus a few family games along with a little table and chairs.
In your room is a folder proving information about child friendly restaurants and shops you may like to visit. We also list all the attractions and facilities in and around York we think may suit the various ages of your children i.e. swimming, go carting, ten pin bowling and cinemas. Doctor, hospital and chemist telephone numbers are also listed. We provide a children’s menu but if there is anything your child desperately wants for breakfast please do not hesitate to ask on arrival.

The Breakfast room is comfortably furnished with a sitting area for you to meet or wait for friends. Breakfast is freshly cooked on the Aga and most dietary requests can be catered for, given some notice. For dinner there are many excellent restaurants and historic inns all within walking distance.

York Attractions

York is renowned for its eclectic mix of historic buildings and there is so much to see and do. Apart from the many attractions, York Minister, the Jorvic and the Railway Museum just to name a few, there are many wonderful shops and restaurants for you to choose from all within easy walking distance of Monkgate Guest House. Most weeks throughout the year York is host to a festival or event, for example the Viking Festival in February, the Roman Festival in July or the Food and Drink Festival in September; and don’t forget York Races, a wonderful day out! During November and December the whole City comes alive with colourful lights and Christmas sprit.

Why not try one of the Ghost Walks at night or take a leisurely stroll along the river embankment calling for an evening drink at one of the hundreds of York's Public Houses. Perhaps you could catch one of the tour buses from Monkgate to take you around York and you can hop on and off as you wish. You may wish to venture further a field as you are only a short distance from the North Yorkshire Moors, the seaside resorts of Whitby and Scarborough or the many stately homes including Castle Howard and Beningbrough. If you do not have access to a vehicle, there are many day trips from York that we can help you arrange.

B&B Location

To avoid the city centre traffic please stay on the A64 until reach the Scarborough roundabout. If you turn off left here, signed Monks Cross (A1036), it will lead you straight into York and Monkgate. As you approach the road about at the bottom of the A1036 you will see the public house Brigadier Gerard on the left hand side, we are opposite on the right. Parking is a little driveway to the side, please negotiate with care.

Directions from North:
As you approach York from the north you arrive on either the A19 or A59. Stay on the inner ring road heading for York City centre bringing you into Bootham. At Bootham Bar turn left onto Gillygate and right at the traffic lights onto Lord Mayors Walk. Stay in the left hand lane and at the next traffic lights turn left onto Monkgate. Monkgate Guest House is almost on the roundabout on your left hand side opposite the Brigadier Gerrard Public House

Nearest Railway Station: York  (0.7  Miles)
