Bed and Breakfast Description

In over 200 years, Rosebery House has had only five owners. It has something special and we welcome the chance to share it with you. One of the first things you will notice is the warm welcoming atmosphere. Just some of the other good things are good food and superb standards of comfort, cleanliness and service. Rosebery House is an elegant Georgian grade II listed house with a long sunny garden facing the sea. All in all it has a fine character and aspect - hence the name `Belle Vue`.

Our front rooms have excellent views of the private and public gardens and the sea. The paved forecourt leads onto a well-stocked garden with surrounding flowerbeds, and shrubs. Around the lawn are three church pews seating and a water feature. Just imagine yourself sitting there reading, relaxing, picnicking chatting or just watching the world go by. Make it your ideal spot to relax and unwind in.

Rosebery House is one of four Georgian houses making Belle Vue. The terrace was built to house the Blackburn family who sold rope and fresh water to the sailing ships. Before the Promenade was built, the Blackburns could spy ships sitting in Bridlington Bay waiting to enter the harbour. When berthed in the harbour, they replenished with fresh water and rope. During the 18th & 19th century, water was drawn from a well in one of the gardens, stored in wooden casks, sold and then loaded onto the sailing ships. . As late as the 1950s, each house in Belle Vue had wells and water was drawn from them.

Bridlington Attractions

Rosebery House is ideal for walking, bird watching, golfing, jet skiing, fishing, paragliding, wind and sail boarding. It is an excellent base for touring the north Yorkshire Moors or the Wolds and visiting historic stately homes and gardens.

The world renowned Bempton Cliffs RSPB Bird Reserve, Burton Agnes Hall, two golf courses (one championship) and Sewerby Hall and Gardens are all between 10 and 20 minutes drive away.

For the more adventurous, Whitby, York, Beverley, Hull and the rolling beauty of the Yorkshire Wolds are within an easy drive time. Large tracts of the Wolds were sculpted and shaped by the legendary landscape designer “Capability Brown”. Sledemere House is said to have one of the largest stables in England. The house and estate houses nestle in a Capability Brown landscape.

Bridlington Old Town grew up around the Priory and was founded around 1113AD. The Priory was once the largest and wealthiest in the country and, with its Bayle Gate Museum, is well worth a visit. Today there are many interesting buildings to look at and admire. Explore the yards and alleyways where the artisans worked, visit the antique shops and galleries, walk the Old Town Trail or relax in one of the tearooms or restaurants.

Sewerby Hall - Walk along the cliffs, take the land train or drive to this grade I listed country house. It is set in 50 acres of beautiful, landscaped gardens in a cliff top location on the outskirts of Sewerby village.

Bempton Cliffs – Each year over 200,000 seabirds reside on the 400ft rock face. It is recognised by the RSPB as the top place in the country to see breeding seabirds. Every year it is visited by thousands of people from all over the world. Here you can see Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills and Gannets and there are always wardens on hand for help and information.
