Bed and Breakfast Description |
| |
|
Cowscot House offers a high standard of accommodation in a sympathetically converted barn and stables, in the heart of rural North Yorkshire. Cowscot House has been run as a Bed and Breakfast since its conversion in the mid nineties. Its new owners, Liz Woolston and Mike Hurford, have now refurbished all the en suite bedrooms and guest areas to a high standard providing fresh and light accommodation. We look forward to welcoming guests, both new and old.
All of the four double/twin bedrooms are en suite and were refurbished in early 2009. They are all on the ground floor, either in the converted barn or adjoining stables overlooking the courtyard garden. Every bedroom has the following: central heating, en suite bathroom or shower room, duvets on the beds, but blankets available if required, a selection of local teas, coffees and biscuits, digital television, comfortable armchairs, clock/radio alarm and hairdryer & free WiFi access.
Meals are served in the dining room where you can join other guests at the large oak table. Much of the food is locally produced including the eggs from the chickens that Mike keeps at his local smallholding and the bacon and sausages from the local butchers. Guests are also able to enjoy homemade bread with their breakfast. After a long day walking or touring, afternoon tea can be provided on request. |

Ripon Attractions |
| |
Cowscot House enjoys a wonderful rural setting in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of Kirkby Malzeard. It is an excellent base for touring North Yorkshire. The village allows easy access to the Yorkshire Dales to the West, and both the North Yorkshire Moors and Coast to the East. For those less adventurous there is a patchwork of footpaths, starting only 50 yards from the house.
The ancient City of Ripon is only 6 miles away, with its imposing cathedral and quaint market square, which has an open market each Thursday. The City also has a racecourse, which is reputed to be the most attractive in the country. Close to Ripon are Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Estate, a National Trust World Heritage Site.
A short distance north is the market town of Masham, which is well known for its lively Market Square and its two breweries, Theakstons and Black Sheep. The town also holds its annual steam fair in July and Sheep fair in September. There are numerous shops, tearooms and Pubs to sample local fare. The town is the gateway to Wensleydale, with its dramatic countryside, quaint villages and welcoming coffee houses and hostelries.
6 miles over the moors is the historic town of Pateley Bridge at the head of Nidderdale. This area has breathtaking views and is a paradise for ramblers, with walks for all abilities. For nature lovers the nearby Gouthwaite Reservoir is famous for its bird watching and nature reserve.
There are also a variety of historic towns and cities all within distance for a day trip. These include York (50 mins), Harrogate (25 mins), Whitby and the coast (1hr 30 mins). Horse riding, golf, fly-fishing and other out door pursuits are available nearby. For horse owners, stabling and grazing is available locally; with many fantastic rides and a nearby BHS riding stables. The area is also wonderful for touring by motorcycle, with some of the country's best rides under an hour away. |
