Bed and Breakfast Description

Situated just off the A19 between York and Selby, South Newlands is an ideal base if you want to visit the Yorkshire Dales, Moors, Wolds or Coast. For nearly 30 years we have been providing home-from home comfort to people from all over the world. And in this time many guests have become good friends. Please come and visit and discover our little bit of Yorkshire.

We want to make your stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. You can choose to relax quietly or share time with us and may be other guests. Our courtyard and patio areas provide a lovely setting to sit and talk over a drink in the summer. Likewise, the large conservatory is a warm cosy haven when the nights grow shorter.

York Attractions

South Newlands is located on the edge of the picturesque and peaceful village of Riccall. But back in 1066 Viking invaders ‘Earl Tostig’ and ‘Harold Hardrada’ sailed up the Ouse and landed in the village before going off to battle near York. Hopefully, when you visit, you will find us a little more friendly! Ideal for children, Riccall has its own park which includes excellent play facilities and even a large purpose-built skateboard ramp. The village is also fortunate enough to be on a Sustrans Route – allowing you to cycle easily and safely to York or Selby along the original rail track.

Famed for its heritage, York is only 15 minutes drive away and there’s a regular bus service from the village. The stunning Abbey in the local town of Selby is even closer and from here there is a regular train service to Leeds, the perfect place for theatre, art and shop lovers.

If you’re keen to explore the outdoors, you’re spoilt for choice. Two National Parks, both within an hour’s drive, abound with outstanding scenery, wildlife and cultural heritage.

You can walk, cycle or simply explore by car the Yorkshire Dales, Yorkshire Moors and nearby Wolds. In addition, famous attractions such as The World of James Herriot in Thirsk, Castle Howard near Malton and the Yorkshire Air Museum near York make for a great day out.

Of course, you can also visit Yorkshire’s wonderful coastline. Beaches, wildlife and celebrated hamlets such as Robin Hood’s Bay are all accessible and a trip to Scarborough, Bridlington or Whitby is always great fun.
