Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Herriot's Guest House offers guests 4 Star (Visit Britain) Bed and Breakfast accommodation in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. All of the guest rooms at Herriot's are individually designed and have en-suite facilities. Herriot's offers a mixture of single, double, twin and family rooms arranged over the first and second foors. The top floor rooms enjoy excellent views (on a clear day!) across Wensleydale to Stag's Fell, Great Shunner Fell and the hamlet of Sedbusk.

Whilst the full evening restaurant has made way for the new Herriot Gallery, Andrea and Richard still prepare and serve evening meals for groups of betwen 8 and 16 (normally B&B guests) if arranged well in advance. So if you are planning a visit to Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales with a walking group or perhaps for a family party or special anniversary then we can create a menu customised to your taste. All dishes are prepared from high quality ingredients, locally sourced whenever possible.

Herriot's Guest house is licenced for residents so to accompany your meal we have carefully selected a range of wines and locally brewed bottle beers.

 

Hawes Attractions

 
The Herriot Way is a 52 miles walk though the beautiful northern-most Yorkshire Dales of Wensleydale and Swaledale. The walk spits conveniently into 4 stages each of approximately 13 miles per day.

Hawes is a picturesque traditional Market Town in Upper Wensleydale within the Yorkshire Dales National Park offering a wide range of attractions to suit many interests. If you are feeling energetic there are hosts of walking possibilities and mountain biking opportunities to suit all ages and abilities.

The Herriot Gallery is situated in the 300-year old Herriot’s building on the main cobbled street that runs through Hawes, in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. The Gallery is part of Herriot’s Guest House and Coffee Shop. So if you’re only able to visit Hawes for the day, why not call in and browse the gallery, then sit back and enjoy a freshly ground coffee and home-made cake? The gallery hosts solo-artist exhibitions for around 3 weeks every 2 months, with the intervening time being a general show of a core of Dales artists, including Piers Browne, Moira Metcalfe, Wendy Jones, Carol Tyler, Jonathon Pomroy, Sue Harpley, Hugh Fitzgibbon, and proprietor Andrea Cooper.

The Dales Countryside Museum is housed in the old railway station at the east end of the town and is managed by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. The Museum tells the story of the the The Dales and its people both past and present.

With its wonderful history and outstanding collections there is always something to inspire at The Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle. One of the most important museums outside London it contains the greatest collection of European fine and decorate arts in the North of England.
