Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Vallum Lodge provides comfortable, quality, cottage style, licensed accommodation where you can truly relax after a memorable day sightseeing or walking. With a large private car park, Vallum Lodge in Northumberland is a perfect base for you to explore Hadrians Wall and Northumbria. Such is our proximity to Hadrians Wall, that the 'vallum' (ie the ditch built 2000 years ago as part of the Wall's fortifications) runs right through the back garden of Vallum Lodge.

We have 5 double/twin rooms plus 1 family room (for 3 people). All rooms have: open country views; tea & coffee making facilities; flatscreen TV with Freeview; radio alarm; complimentary WiFi; affordable minibar with a selection of drinks and snacks; hairdryer; en-suite bathroom or shower room with big fluffy towels and bathrobes plus a selection of toiletries. Relax in the comfortable residents lounge which contains a selection of games, books, magazines, travel guides and TV/DVD. Breakfast is cooked in the Aga and served in the bright and airy dining room.

 

Hexham Attractions

 
Vallum Lodge is the perfect base for a walking or touring holiday, being situated about half a mile south of the most scenic part of Hadrians Wall, close to all the Roman sites.

The Hadrians Wall bus service, which runs on Sundays, Bank Holidays and daily in summer, connects all the main sites and passes our door, stopping at the nearby Twice Brewed Inn (real ales, good food). As an alternative to Hadrians Wall, the Haltwhistle Rings collection of 22 walks explores some other parts of this beautiful area.

The pretty village of Corbridge and Hexham with it's abbey and market place are 20 minutes drive away and are well worth a visit. If you feel like hitting the shops, Newcastle and the Metrocentre are within 45 minutes drive.

Further afield but still within easy reach for a day out are: The magnificent castles and beaches of the Northumberland coast, Alnwick, Bamburgh, Warkworth and Dunstanburgh; The beautiful National Trust properties of Cragside and Wallington; The fascinating North of England open air museum at Beamish; The North Lakes, in particular Lake Ullswater and Kielder Forest with its reservoir and many cycle trails .
