Bed and Breakfast Description

A warm welcome awaits you at the Thorverton Arms located in the centre of the beautiful village of Thorverton in mid Devon.

The Thorverton Arms dates back to 1542, when it first opened as a coaching inn. The bar is cosy with a real fire in the winter and boasts an extensive range of drinks, including traditional cask ales. Our restaurant, where you will find classic British food cooked with local Devon ingredients, is open every day for lunch and dinner. All dishes are home-made and cooked to order, served in comfortable and relaxed surroundings and offered at affordable prices. As well as our normal lunch and dinner menus we have a large selection of Daily Specials available.

The Thorverton Arms has six comfortable en-suite letting rooms: three double rooms, one twin room, one single room and a family room that sleeps up to four. All our rooms are tastefully decorated and well equipped with pocket sprung beds, luxury pillows, power shower, central heating, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, alarm clock and remote controlled flat screen television with Freeview.

We also have a baby listening monitor available which gives parents peace of mind if they fancy an evening drink in the bar or a meal in the restaurant.

The Thorverton Arms is located on the Land's End to John O'Groats route so is the ideal stop off point for walkers and cyclists. We can provide secure storage overnight for bicycles.

Exeter Attractions

Thorverton village is very picturesque with thatched cottages, a ford and a number of walks and cycle tracks in the surrounding countryside. Being just seven miles from Exeter, it is the ideal touring base for the north and south Devon coasts, Exmoor and Dartmoor. As the capital of Devon, Exeter has plenty of things to entertain all age groups. As well as being an excellent place for shopping, the city has many attractions:

Exeter Cathedral: with its twin Norman towers is England's finest example of decorated Gothic architecture, with its magnificent nave soaring to the fan-vaulted roof, and intricately carved choir stalls; the misericords are thought to be the longest in the country. It also boasts the longest Gothic vault in Europe - superbly atmospheric.

Roman and Medieval Walls: much remains of both the Roman and Medieval walls of the city of Exeter. Many choice streets and buildings survive - despite the blitz.

Royal Albert Memorial Museum: the museum is full of fascinating objects. Many areas of the collection are of national and international importance the World Cultures Collection achieved Designated Collection status to mark its outstanding importance. Open every day except Sunday.

Underground Passages: Britain's only ancient City Passageways open to the public, were first devised to bring water into the heart of the city at the start of the 13th century. They can be visited today, little changed since the days when they were built. An ideal destination for that rainy day.

Historic Quayside: just a 10 minute walk from the bustling shops, cafes, and offices of the city centre. Exeter's historic quayside is a charming mix of past and present. River and canal trips can be taken from the quayside.
