Bed and Breakfast Description

Visiting a foreign city is always fun but so much more enjoyable if you have people to stay with, who will look after you well, give you advice on anything you are interested in doing or seeing, but leave you alone to do your own thing. But finding a good and friendly bed and breakfast in London can be a nightmare - you can easily end up in a cheap and nasty down-market hotel, or find yourself living embarrassingly close to the owners of a private house and your fellow guests.

The Coach House, which is in a quiet, safe, fashionable part of town is a London bed and breakfast with a difference. We provide high quality accommodation. The Coach House London bed and breakfast is a separate building with all its own self-contained facilities and a private entrance, standing in the garden of the main house. It sleeps 5 people (two bathrooms), and is ideal for a family/group of up to 5 people or just a couple. We only take one bed and breakfast booking at a time. Part of a friendly London family home, a great breakfast is cooked for you in the main house, or have the flexibility to get your own breakfast in The Coach House kitchen.

The main bedroom is a large room on the first floor with original oak beams and French windows giving out to the garden. There is a double (5ft) and single bed, easy chair, wardrobe and chest of drawers. You also have a telephone/answer phone with your own phone number (which we will let you know before you arrive), radio, television and hair dryer. A baby cot + high chair is available if booked in advance. There is high-speed broadband internet access via a wireless access point - to use it you'll need a laptop with a wireless card. On the ground floor is a second bedroom with twin beds. This also has a radio, television and hair dryer and its own private facilities which, although not en-suite, are easily reached across the entrance way.

Tooting Attractions

The Coach House is less than 5 minutes walk from a variety of good restaurants and a couple of well stocked convenience stores. It's also only a short walk from Wandsworth Common a pleasant park with many trees, wide open spaces and ponds, and fashionable Bellevue Road with its interesting shops, thriving restaurants, pubs, and cafés.

To help you find your way around we provide an information pack giving full details of local transport (tube and train stations are just a 7 minute walk) restaurants, shops, pubs etc. together with a clear map of the area and the tube/train systems and a guide to how best to use them.

Fancy a meal in a local restaurant? You might be lucky and get a table at Chez Bruce, 10 minutes walk away and voted by top London chefs as the place they most enjoy eating out. (We can make a booking for you if you wish - but do let us know well in advance). Less than 5 minutes walk there is Ferrari's a - popular modern Italian bistro - and next door is The Point a very pleasant restaurant and wine bar. A few paces further on is the Thai Buffalo, excellent Thai food.

The pubs and wine bars of Bellevue Road include The Surrey Tavern, a traditional pub, and the Pitcher and Piano, a wine bar serving light meals and popular with the young. The Bellevue Road restaurants include Dexter's Grill - American style grills and burgers and Est Est Est - lively, modern décor, Italian/modern European cuisine. Also close at hand is The Balham Tup, a lively pub for the young, and The Bedford with an excellent live comedy cabaret three nights a week.

London is truly an amazing city for food. Every national cuisine is represented and very often you do not have to go into the centre to find it. Just ask us!

B&B Location

We are very well placed for local transport, there's fast and regular transport to central London and the West End within easy walking distance of the house.

From Balham Station (7 mins walk) you can take a tube (the newly refurbished Northern Line) direct to Leicester Square and Oxford Street (20 mins) or catch a train (8 mins) to Victoria.

When you first arrive, the best option is for us to arrange a car to meet you. We work closely with a reliable car company and can arrange a car to meet you at the airport if you wish. Costs vary depending on the number of people and the airport you are flying into. For pick-ups from Heathrow for 2/3 people with luggage an estate car is about £45, for larger parties an MPV at £60 will be needed. For Gatwick the costs are £60 (estate car) and £70 (MPV).

Alternatively, from Heathrow take the Airlink bus to Victoria and then catch a cab. From Gatwick take the Gatwick non-stop express direct to Victoria, or the slower train to Clapham Junction (last stop before Victoria), then take a taxi.

If you arrive by car there's ample street parking and we can let you have a visitor's daily parking permit for £5/day.
