The Barn B&B at Ashe Hall in Derby is committed to creating a calm and uplifting environment for your enjoyment in the Derbyshire heart of England. This Derbyshire B&B provides the first English Tourist Council accredited Bed & Breakfast accommodation in the UK dedicated to World Peace. The Barn at Ashe Hall B&B is run by residents of Tara Buddhist Centre at Ashe Hall. Their lifestyle incorporates the notion of volunteering their time to help others: this is seen as a public service. It's the perfect place for a restful night in homely surroundings. Decorated to a high standard throughout, our B&B rooms are clean, comfortable and welcoming.

The kitchen provides an idyllic place for breakfast. It is furnished using locally produced tiles from Dove Dale. The feel is traditional but with a modern finish. Guests can experience a uniquely vegetarian cooked breakfast which includes North Staffordshire Oatcakes served with a selection of fillings. For those who are less adventurous, there is the traditional toast with jam or porridge. Also on offer is freshly brewed coffee or herbal tea, fresh fruit salad and yoghurt. A great way to start the day if you are heading to work or going exploring in the Peak District or Derbyshire.

Sit back and relax in the World Peace Café and Gardens, with your favourite hot drink. Or why not sample something from the all-vegetarian menu which includes light meals, paninis, salads and soups. The Café uses fair-trade coffee and organic products when possible. There are beautiful views of the lawns and woodland and the relaxing atmosphere is a good way to begin your stay. Inspired by the vision of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the World Peace Café exists to promote peace throughout the world by using any profits for building a Kadampa Temple dedicated to world peace for the benefit of this and future generations.

Etwall is situated to the south-west of Derby, and has grown enormously since the end of the Second World War, but still retains an attractive village centre. St Helen's Church and the Sir John Port Almshouses set on slightly rising ground are particularly appealing. The fine wrought-iron gates by Robert Bakewell, that hang outside the almshouses, restored in the 1980s, add an extra touch of quality.

Monkey Forest at Trentham - 60 acres of beautiful woodland and meadows where 140 monkeys live in total freedom. You are plunged into the Barbary macaques fascinating world as you hear rustling in the trees, chattering in a strange language of sounds and mimicry, and chasing one another through the branches. To your right there is a male carrying a baby on his back, on your left are two females grooming each other, and in the trees are young monkeys doing acrobatics between the branches. Walking along the path you are transported into a different world of animal magic!

By car - from the A50 Junction 5 Nottingham to Stoke, take the A516 to Derby. After ½ mile take the left turn signposted Sutton-on-the-Hill, and we are 500yds on the right.

By train - Derby 8 miles. Tutbury & Hatton 4 miles.

By taxi - approx. £16 from Derby train station.

By bus - V1 or V2 to Etwall from Debenhams which is located in the centre of town (£2.10), then a 15 minute walk (see map in village for 'Tara Buddhist Centre').
