Bed and Breakfast Description

Common Farm Bed and Breakfast is a welcome stop for the business traveller or the ideal venue for the holiday maker. Nestled amongst fields and farmland in rural Staffordshire it is the perfect retreat; an oasis of calm and relaxation run by Hazel and David Cliffe who have lived at the farmhouse for over 20 years.

Although secluded, Common Farm offers quick and easy access to the Cathedral City of Lichfield, national rail networks and major motorways so whatever what your priorities, pleasure or business, your needs are catered for in a welcoming atmosphere.

Common Farm garden viewA recent modern extension has been added giving guests the luxury of modern conveniences. The Darwin and Johnson bedrooms are comfortable, spacious and well furnished. Both look out onto the landscaped gardens and patio area which are south facing. Beyond, there are extensive views over the local countryside. We look forward to meeting you and making your stay a memorable one.

Lichfield Attractions

The canal pubs of Fradley or the homely Royal Oak in nearby Kings Bromley mean a good meal and real ale are close at hand. If you would like somewhere to walk off your pub lunch, there are more miles of canal tow paths in Staffordshire than in any other shire county providing plenty of opportunities for you to take a leisurely stroll or a more demanding walk.

Lichfield and Staffordshire contain a wealth of wonderful sights, sounds and attractions. The Lichfield skyline is dominated by the majestic Cathedral, the only three-spired monument of its kind in the country and a fine sight as you approach the city. The cathedral has a top class choir of men and boys which sings services on most days of the week and has made many broadcasts on both national radio and TV. Orchestral and choral concerts held there are certainly worth attending. Indeed the music calendar in Staffordshire is always full. Rock concerts and firework displays take place at nearby Alton Towers and outdoor classical music is staged at Shugborough Hall. With the legendary V-festival at Stafford Park and numerous jazz and real ale festivals, there is something for everybody to enjoy.

From a historical perspective, Staffordshire boasts many churches, castles and large country homes. Tutbury Castle, with its spectacular views, was built in the 11th Century for one of William the Conqueror's barons. Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned there on three separate occasions. It is rumoured her ghost still haunts the castle. Nearby, the Norman Tamworth castle has fifteen period rooms including a Great hall and a dungeon.

Within an hour's drive from Common Farm you can be deep in the Peak District National Park. Established in 1951 and the first National Park in Britain, visitors come from across the country to experience some of the best climbing, caving, cycling and walking on offer.
