Bed and Breakfast Description |
| |
|
Chosen by “Country Living” for its very first selection of favourite Rural Retreats, Gray's Farmhouse has since featured in the “Sunday Telegraph” travel section and in “Dorset Magazine” as well as appearing in Alastair Sawday’s prestigious “Special Places to Stay”.
Recently we gained 99% in the Mystery Shoppers' survey commissioned by the National Skills Academy- We were told it was the highest score awarded to date.
The farmhouse has stripped floors, massive flagstones, old oak beams, and in winter a blazing log fire welcomes you in the lovely dining room, a converted apple store that looks down across the idlyllic grounds to a stream. At other times of year breakfast is eaten in the lovely conservatory.
Throughout the house the walls, painted in National Trust or hand-blended colours, are hung with Rosie's vibrant paintings many of which are for sale.
Breakfast includes fresh fruit juices, fruit, fruit compote and yoghurts, a choice of breads including home-baked white and wholemeal with nuts & seeds, home-made preserves, croissants, scrambled egg with smoked salmon, locally smoked kippers, or English Breakfast using locally sourced food as much as possible.
The simply furnished bedrooms are deeply peaceful with goose-down duvets*, Egyptian cotton sheets, and ensuite bath or shower room. There is a flatsceen digital TV + DVD, with easy chairs, hot drinks tray, and water from our own spring that recent guests described as "ambrosia".
Adjoining the bedrooms there is a tiny "snug" with easy chairs which we have tried to set up with everything we can think of for your pleasure or convenience: ideally placed if you can't sleep at night. There's internet access, a fridge, basin, picnic things, iron & board, local guide books, maps, novels, magazines, copious information on local walks, activities and places to eat, radio, CDs, DVDs, cards, scrabble, chess and other games. We hope you will find something here to enhance you stay! |

Bridport Attractions |
| |
Grays Farmhouse is between Dorchester, Bridport and Beaminster, ideally placed as a centre from which to explore an area rich in interesting places to visit and things to do, in the heart of West Dorset.
The whole Jurassic Coast lies within easy driving distance, from Studland to Exmouth. Particularly popular with guests are Abbotsbury, Burton Bradstock, West Bay, Charmouth and Lyme Regis.
The farmhouse adjoins 2 nature reserves and there is a whole network of walks from the door with connections onto the nearby Jubilee Trail and the Wessex Ridgeway.
Mapperton Manor is a glorious two hour walk away, and Eggardon Hill is just across Powerstock common. here are numerous hidden honey-coloured villages nearby, many with excellent pubs.
While Powerstock Common is ancient woodland, Kingcombe is a world of meadows and streams, best seen when newborn lambs stagger to their feet or when butterflies flit through the wildflowers in June.
On the Hooke River, nearby, there is an otter in residence and kingfishers are sometimes seen. Visitors to Grays Farmhouse frequently see deer, buzzards, badgers, and there is a profusion of wild flowers including several species of orchid, genuinely wild snowdrops, cowslips, and a succession of magnificently prolific pink flowers, starting with red campion which coincides with the bluebells and cow-parsley, then foxgloves, rosebay willow-herb, and wild roses. And of course there are the yellow flowers too, the primroses, celandines, buttercups, flag irises, honeysuckle… |
