Bed and Breakfast Description

We have three double rooms and one family room. All are recently refurbished and en suite. Our rooms are well equipped, including: TV, wireless internet, hairdryer & tea, coffee and biscuits. As well as breakfast, we offer good home-cooked lunches and evening meals. If you want to take a packed lunch out with you, we’ll make that for you too.

Our guests come from all over the world. We’ve enjoyed the company of people from New Zealand, Australia, the US and Canada, as well as countries all over Europe. Of course, we have English, Irish, Scots and Welsh visitors too. And who could forget the French and Welsh parties en route to the Six Nations rugby in Cardiff or Paris!

If you’re attending a wedding or a function locally, the Wheatsheaf is an ideal place to stay. We’re within walking distance of Wilton House, the Michael Herbert Hall and Land HQ. If you’re on the way to the ferry at Poole, Weymouth or Portsmouth, this is a good spot to break your journey – to stay overnight or enjoy some lunch. We’re also ideally placed if you’re going to a special event and need somewhere handy to stay. Many events take place locally, for example: the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra concert with fireworks, at Wilton House; the Larmer Tree Festival & the Glastonbury Festival.

Salisbury Attractions

There’s plenty to see within walking distance. We’re next door to the Wilton Shopping Village, with its 18th century courtyard and riverside setting. There are also pre-booked tours at the Wilton Carpet Factory. Historic Wilton House, stately home of the Earl of Pembroke, is just five minutes’ walk round the corner. Wilton House Garden Centre is just a short walk away, with an outstanding choice of plants, gifts, outdoor and indoor products. And you can walk to the unusual Italianate Church of St Mary and St Nicholas, built in the 1840s.

Salisbury is just three miles away. Salisbury Cathedral dates back to the 11th century. There you can see one of only four original copies of the Magna Carta, signed in 1215. The Cathedral celebrates the 750th anniversary of its consecration in 2008. In Salisbury, you can also visit the National Trust’s Mompesson House. On the city’s outskirts, there is Old Sarum, the original site of the cathedral city, run by English Heritage. Salisbury Racecourse is around two miles away from the Wheatsheaf. Race meet dates for 2008 are from Sunday, 4 May to Wednesday, 1 October. Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club is also just two miles away.

In an hour or so, you can drive from the Wheatsheaf to many other attractions in Wiltshire and nearby Hampshire, such as: Stonehenge (English Heritage) – 10 miles; The ancient stone circle at Avebury (National Trust) – just under 40 miles; The White Horse at Westbury – 25 miles; The World War I military badges at Fovant – 7 miles; Longleat House and Safari Park – 25 miles; The New Forest – its northern boundary is around 12 miles away; Old Wardour Castle (English Heritage) – 14 miles; Stourhead (National Trust) – 25 miles; Shopping centres in Bournemouth – about 30 miles & West Quay and other shopping centres in Southampton – about 30 miles.
