Bed and Breakfast Description |
| |
|
The Granary is a charming country B&B with an exquisite classic cottage garden in Mangerton, a peaceful hamlet just north of Bridport. Maggie, a keen gardener, cook and painter, provides delicious locally-sourced breakfasts, served in a dining room from which you can see the original granary wheel astride the beams in the rafters, with the ropes and pulleys once used to haul the stacks of grain up from below for storage in the granary barn.
As well as a delicious breakfast and comfortable, characterful accommodation, you will receive a warm welcome and plenty of enthusiasm and knowledge to help you get the most out of your visit to this lovely corner of West Dorset.
Looking directly out onto the enchanting garden or the courtyard are two downstairs bedrooms, a twin and a double, each with its own "en suite" bath or shower room, charmingly furnished in country style. |

Bridport Attractions |
| |
A tiny lane threads its way from the main Bridport to Beaminster road, taking you in only a few minutes deep into the heart of hidden West Dorset, with its tiny, perfectly-formed hills and gentle valleys.
Here you will find Mangerton- a working seventeenth century watermill, the granary, a few crumbly stone farm buildings and a scattering of cottages. You could easily be in rural France. From the doorstep there is a network of footpaths through some of West Dorset's loveliest and most peaceful countryside. The historic old water mill and millpond offer trout fishing, a perfect setting for teas, a rural museum and delightful riverside walks. Yet Mangerton is well connected and in no time at all you can be in bustling Bridport or honey-stoned Beaminster, or down onto the magnificent World Heritage Jurassic Coast less than five miles away. Within an easy drive are Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Abbotsbury, Beaminster, Dorchester and Sherborne. Closer to hand along the River Manger and snuggling under Eggardon hill fort there is a string of sleepy golden villages with thatched roofs and roses round the door: West Milton, Powerstock, Nettlecombe, Loders, Uploders and Askerswell. There are fine historic houses to be visited: Forde Abbey, Montecute, Mapperton, Athelhampton.
You can also visit the Jurassic Coast, including West Bay, Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Abbotsbury Dorchester, Cerne Abbas, Mapperton Manor. Forde Abbey, Montecute Walking:AONB, Dorset Wild Life Trust reserves, Hill forts. |
