Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Merlewood Cottage is owned and run by Alick and Peggie Whittle. This welcoming couple offer superb bed and breakfast accommodation. Both guest rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished, have private or en-suite bathrooms and one even has a balcony. Alick's home-cooked, hearty breakfast is served in either the country style kitchen or on the terrace that overlooks the cottage's delightful garden and the surrounding countryside beyond.

There are two double bedrooms with commanding views over the village of Harberton and surrounding countryside. Both bedrooms have TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Please note that both rooms have double beds only, no twin-bedded facilities. The "Provence" bedroom is dual-aspect with ensuite and shower and the "Balcony" bedroom has a private bathroom with bath and shower.

Private off-road parking is available for guests along with use of the garden. Please note: no pets and no smoking.

 

Totnes Attractions

 
Harberton is ideally situated at the centre of South Devon - with Dartmoor to the north, the coastal walks and beaches of the South Hams, and the historical city of Plymouth all within easy reach. A vast selection of country inns and places of interest are available, including some excellent golf courses.

The established National Trust properties in the area are joined in 2002 by "Greenway", the former home of Agatha Christie, overlooking the beautiful River Dart. A word of caution - private vehicle access to "Greenway" is strictly controlled. English Heritage is well-represented too with its castles at Totnes, Berry Pomeroy and Dartmouth.

A boat trip along the tidal Dart is surely one of the most memorable holiday experiences in England. And two fine preserved steam railways offer an excellent way to view the local scenery.
 

B&B Location
 
Head south from Totnes on the A381 Kingsbridge Road. After about 2 miles turn right at signpost "Harberton 3/4 mile". On entering the village, pass over the stream and then take the first right marked "Parish Hall". Travel 250 yards straight up the hill, ignoring a right turn to the pub, and Merlewood Cottage is on the left, well above road level, with stone pillars either side of the steps up to the front door.
