Salisbury Attractions

Salisbury is an ancient cathedral city. Its history goes back over a thousand years and its origins can be traced thousands of years further back. Its not surprising therefore that it has many points of interest, especially historical interest, and is close to many other historic sites. Salisbury also has a local market every Tuesday and Saturday.

Salisbury Cathedral is one of the finest throughout Britain standing at an impressive 404ft. The Cathedral has been stood proud for over 775 years! It is visible on every approach to the City, some of the best views being from the hills to the east and south of the city. Building started in 1220 and finished in 1258.

Old Sarum was first occupied over 5000 years ago. in its time it has been occupied and defended by the Romans, Saxons and Normans and was the original site of the Salisbury cathedral. It is possible to see these remains along with the remainder of the fort.

Built 4000 years ago Stonehenge still manages to confuse scientists to how exactly it was built. Its one of the oldest and well known megalithic site in the country. Its situated eight miles north of the city.

Wilton House first opened its doors to the public on the 1st May 1951. The building its self is 450 years old and stands in more than 21 acres of beautiful gardens and parklands. The house is currently home of Henry Herbert - the 17th Earl of Pembroke.

The Roman Baths are just one of many things to experience on a short trip to bath. Bath is a Georgian City and has many wonderful churches and has hundreds of shops to wander round.

Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm Park and Rabbit World is a converted milk dairy farm, set in beautiful countryside on the Wiltshire & Hampshire border only 4 miles from Stonehenge, with views to Salisbury Cathedral. Offering a relaxing experience for all ages whether you come for a coffee, or a few hours or to stay!
