Lullington House was built in 1866 as the rectory for the villages of Lullington and Orchardleigh. The house was used for this purpose up until 1955, after which time it became a private residence and it has been our family home since 1959. The building is a fine example of Victorian architecture, designed by George Devey and meticulously built to a high standard by very skilled craftsman of the day.
The house stands in ten acres of its own grounds, of which approximately one and a half acres is well maintained formal and woodland garden, the remainder being paddocks, orchard and woodland. The large diversity of trees, plants, and shrubs provides a wonderful habitat for an abundance of birds and wildlife, alot of which can be seen from the comfort of your bedroom.
South facing the Waldegrave room offers views of the large cedar and beech trees surrounded by lawn and paddocks, beyond which are the parkland and woods of Orchardleigh Estate. In spring, the blossom of the wisteria that adorns the south side of the house fills the room with it's glorious perfume. Some fine period furniture accompanies the mahogany four-poster bed that stands opposite one of our many original stone mantled fireplaces.
East facing the Duckworth room offers the benefit of the sunrise, viewed through the large bay window that overlooks the front garden and paddocks beyond. This very spacious room has at its centre a large colourfully upholstered, painted four-poster bed with furniture to match complemented also by other fine period furniture.
For your added comfort, we also provide large easy chairs to enable you to relax and enjoy your stay with us, or to simply curl up in and enjoy a good book in the peace and tranquillity. Tea / Coffee making facilities are provided in the room along with a selection of biscuits and bottled water. Also for those wishing to remain in contact with the outside world, television and radio are provided. |
