Bed and Breakfast Description

Welcome! Our B and B is warmly recommended in Alastair Sawday and Trip Advisor for the comfort of our rooms, the friendliness of our welcome, the beautiful garden and the quiet sheltered location of our house. Special mention is also made of our delicious breakfasts and the tea and home made cakes each afternoon. Your hosts are David and Rosemary Freemantle, whose main aim is to give you the best holiday possible while you are with them. Having entertained guests for fifteen years they are experienced at looking after you and have a wide knowledge of Somerset to aid your enjoyment of the area.

Our house exudes warmth and comfort. Bedrooms are traditional, comfortable and spacious, all ensuite, good mattresses, fresh flowers and tea and coffee making facilities. Our guests have a large sitting room, heated in season by a cosy woodburner, a sprawl of easy chairs and stacks of books and jigsaws plus a digital television. We are a non-smoking house but guests may use the veranda or garden. We have a good drying room for walkers and bikers clothes and always lots of hot water for baths.

The house nestles in a 6 acre woodland glade. Exceptionally quiet at night, only disturbed by owls or foxes. Red and roe deer are often seen in our fields and woodland. We are enthusiastic amateur gardeners and have planted a wealth of trees, shrubs and perennials over the last 15 years - and in Somerset everything grows apace! The croquet lawn is always available for games and we have a horse swing as well as a garden rocking horse for the younger guests.

Fresh squeezed orange juice, grapefruit, stewed fruit, various cereals (porridge in winter) home made marmalade and jams together with a variety of teas and coffee. Choose from bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomato, black pudding, eggs – or have it all to set you up for the day. Where possible all ingredients are locally sourced. Home made cakes and biscuits are on offer at tea time.

Quantock hills Attractions

This relatively unknown area of Somerset, designated the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1957, has much to recommend it. The Quantock Hills offer moor, woodland, farmland and winding streams, hill and dale, ideal for walking, cycling, riding and bird watching. The coast offers sandy beaches at Minehead and strata rocks for fossil hunting at Doniford. There are numerous lovely gardens to visit from Hestercombe to Greencombe as well as many private gardens. Convenient for the wedding venues of St Audries, Crowcombe Court and Bagborough House.

You can join The West Somerset Railway from Crowcombe Station a short stroll away. This is the longest steam railway in the country run by volunteers. It travels from Bishops Lydeard through beautiful countryside and along the coast to Minehead. There are pretty villages with good Pubs all around the area and we can provide you with maps, guides and advice to help you enjoy your time with us.

The county market town of Taunton is ten miles away with the County Cricket ground, a great Antique Market on Mondays (Rosemary loves it, David says its just more stuff!) and shops to fulfil most requirements. Somerset has villages to rival the Cotswolds and without the crowds. Enjoy cream teas with proper clotted cream. Travel a little further to the west to Exmoor, go north west to Dunster and Porlock. Which ever way you choose to travel there are gems to visit but there is no need to go far as there is so much to enjoy close by.
