Bed and Breakfast Description

We have both double, twin and single rooms available with private and/or shared bathrooms. Most have their own wash basins. The rooms have lovely views over the garden and fields, and guests have access to the drawing room which has a piano and open fire. In the morning, breakfast is served in the dining room where we provide a full English breakfast. We try and source our food locally, organically and where possible using Fair Trade products.

The house stands in three acres of stunning secluded gardens that were originally laid out by Lady Priscilla Bacon. The garden is stocked with many unusual bulbs, shrubs and trees with something to enjoy all the year round. We would also like to welcome those of you who feel the need to take time out for spiritual reflection and recreation. Being a former rectory, and surrounded by fields and quietness, Orchards offers an ideal retreat. There are many good walks in the area. Hales church, a few fields away, is the most complete and unspoilt Norman church in Norfolk. We are in the process of creating a quiet room cum Chapel.

Norwich Attractions

The Norfolk Broads... boats can be hired from a number of places to cruise or row away an afternoon on the water. We are just 12 miles from the interesting city of Norwich with its cathedral, castle, market and medieval churches. Lowestoft a seaside town full of sand and spades, and pin-ball machines 20 mins away. Pleasurewood hills theme park is ideal for families and is only half an hour away. Fritton Lake is also an ideal family venue with a variety of activities including horse riding, boating on the lake, giant chess and a wellie trail!!

For quieter days:- Southwold - offers a more relaxing time with sandy beaches and good food. Dunwich beach - famous for its fish and chips and fascinating history. Covehithe - a very scenic area for ramblers with an inland lake.

For birdwatchers:- Minsmere (RSPB) is half an hour away between Dunwich and Aldburgh. Berney Marshes and Breydon Water (RSPB) one of the UK's largest expanses of wetland is also about half an hour from here.

There are several open gardens in the area: Raveningham hall; Hales Hall for those wishing to see and buy plants, and Somerleyton Hall with its famous yew hedge maze. There are many nearby sports facilities such as swimming and canoeing. The Bungay & Waveney Valley Golf Course is a friendly quintessential old English club - only 15 minutes away. There are many excellent places to walk and cycle, surrounded by idyllic countryside. One of our favourites is to float on the bicycles down Ferry Lane all the way to the ferry that takes you across the River Yare and to the Ferry Inn. There you will find wonderful choices of icecreams, drinks and food. A 10 mile round trip for a delightful afternoon.

B&B Location

You will find us in the Norfolk hamlet of Raveningham, about 12 miles south-east of Norwich. If coming from Norwich along the A146 (Lowestoft road), turn left into Hales village onto the B1136, immediately after the petrol station (soon after signs to Loddon). Go through Hales and after less than a mile or so out of the village take the first right turn (Beccles Road), signs to the Raveningham centre. We are the third house on the right, with a white gate.

Nearest Railway Station: Reedham  (3.6  Miles)
