Bed and Breakfast Description

Magdalen House is situated in the former Anglo Saxon settlement of 'Buntings' and boasts a quiet environment, range of wildlife and rural setting. Your cottage style double bedroom and private bathroom are situated in one corridor in our house. The room is centrally heated, has tea and coffee making facilities, a colour TV and a DVD player. There is a dedicated parking area for guests.

The garden at Magdalen House was created from scratch. There are many 'rooms' to be explored and sat in. Guests are invited to wander but need to know we have dogs who may join you, and therefore it is vital that all gates remain shut. If you have the urge to 'weed,' please feel free. Overall, our plot is 2.8 acres, with paddocks containing our Carriage driving horses, Bobby D and Del Boy. Enquiries about Carriage rides, Pub drives, and 'Groom Days' are welcome, at extra costs.

Thetford Attractions

West Norfolk is a treasure trove of unexpected surprises and is a quiet and fascinatingly beautiful part of a unique county. From Hunstanton, a popular resort on the east coast of the Wash, to Denver Mill, a working windmill near Downham Market; from Grimes Graves, a stone-age flint mine system in the Breckland to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Welney, deep in the endless Fens, West Norfolk has something to offer most tastes.

For those who like town attractions, King's Lynn is the capital of West Norfolk. An important port from as early as the 11th century, King's Lynn is still a busy town, with a strong maritime history. It is the main shopping centre for the area, with two Market Places, and has many tourist attractions in its own right. King's Lynn has a strong sense of history, revealed in the many small streets and alleyways in the older parts of the town. Its most famous landmark is the Customs House, situated in the old port area alongside many mediaeval merchant houses - proof of the wealth generated by the shipping trade. The market towns of Downham Market, Swaffham and Thetford also offer many attractions.

If you like more rural pursuits, countryside is one thing that West Norfolk has in abundance. There are walks, bridleways and quiet lanes by the hundred, acres of subtle and intriguing landscape, and always, wherever you go, plenty of sky. Large areas of the south west of the county are covered by Thetford Forest. Although a commercial forest, there are many visitor attractions, centred around the High Lodge Forest Centre outside Brandon. The forest is ideal for walking, cycling or horse-riding. Magdalen House is located right in the middle of all this, conveniently situated to reach any part of West Norfolk with very little effort.

B&B Location

If you are not familiar with the area, find your way to the crossroads at Methwold on the B1112 between Stoke Ferry and Brandon. At the crossroads, turn into the village of Methwold, heading towards Methwold Hythe. Continue through the village, passing the church, the primary school, and Ventura Close. At the sharp right bend, go straight on into Buntings Lane. Magdalen House is at the end of the lane on the right hand side.
