Bed and Breakfast Description |
| |
|
The Old School Bed and Breakfast is situated in the village of East Barsham, in the heart of the rolling Norfolk countryside. It is just three miles from Fakenham and two miles from the pilgrimage destination of Little Walsingham. The B&B is run around a detailed Eco-statement - this B&B does everything possible to provide an excellent standard of ecologically-friendly accommodation.
There are three main bedrooms plus a small single room for occasional use at The Old School, each decorated in traditional country cottage style. The rooms are in the cottage section of the B&B, offering private, peaceful accommodation with its own entrance. Please note: The Twin and King or Twin are let one at a time to ensure that guests have their own private bathroom, unless they will both be used by one party who would share the bathroom.
A varied breakfast menu is offered each morning for an excellent start to the day. Local produce is used where possible, including Norfolk bacon and sausages, local free-range eggs, home-baked bread and homemade preserves. When homemade bread is served, it has been made with organic flour. Gluten-free bread may be available if requested prior to arrival. Guests arriving in the late afternoon can enjoy a pot of tea or coffee, served with homemade scones or a slice of fruitcake made from organic ingredients and accompanied by homemade preserves! Fruit tisanes, decaffeinated coffee and herbal teas are always available, made with pure, filtered water. |

Fakenham Attractions |
| |
There are many eating options for lunchtime and evening meals in nearby Fakenham and the local village inn in East Barsham is within easy walking distance. The Old School Bed and Breakfast offers a variety of on-site activity breaks. For guests wishing to relax at the B&B, there is an extensive library of both reference and fiction. Those wishing to explore Norfolk are invited to borrow from a selection of maps.
Nearby attractions include: Wells-next-the-Sea - the closest seaside town to the B&B, is a short journey away; Holkham Beach - an excellent beach for walking horses and bird watching. Used in films such as The Beach and Shakespeare in Love; The Thursford Collection - a collection of street organs, carousels and steam-driven farm machinery, open from Easter to September, with regular afternoon Wurlitzer concerts; Cromer - with its beach and other seaside attractions, including Cromer Pier; Walsingham - a place of pilgrimage for nearly one thousand years; The National Cycle Route - this passes close to the B&B; Traditional Norfolk Market Towns - Swaffham, North Walsham and Dereham are all nearby; Fakenham - with its weekly market and auctions, Racecourse and monthly farmer's market & The North Norfolk Railway or the Wells to Walsingham Railway.
The long beaches and salt flats of the Norfolk coastline are ideal for boating, bird-watching, cycling and walking. Keen bird watchers can look forward to seeing the house-martins, robins, wrens and house sparrows that raise their families at The Old School Bed and Breakfast each year. There were 23 House-martins' nests in 2005! Blue-tits took up residence in the little Tardis in the courtyard this year, so the old police box contains the boys [and girls] in blue. Also, watch for the marsh-tits, wren, robin, chaffinches, greenfinches, collared doves and occasional partridge, and listen for the blackbirds and pheasants. |
