Bed and Breakfast Description

Want a relaxing fishing holiday in lovely comfortable surroundings? Want to explore all that Norfolk has to offer? Then look no further!

You’ll find Bartles Lodge in the tiny, sleepy village of Elsing, just a few miles from the busy market town of Dereham. The Lodge provides comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation in our newly converted stables, surrounded by 11 acres of beautiful grounds. From July/August 2008 those with caravans will be able to stay in our newly opening touring park. Our setting is ideal for the fishing enthusiast as we have three well stocked fishing lakes. It is also the ideal base from which to explore all that Norfolk has to offer – from the Norfolk broads to the north Norfolk coast.

We have six ensuite bedrooms and can sleep a total of 12 people. Four of the rooms look out over the beautiful fishing lakes, while other two look over towards the courtyard. All rooms have been refurbished with an up to date, attractive feel. Four of the rooms have been modernised with new showers whilst the other two have baths. Each room has flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and hair dryers. All are fully double-glazed and have been updated with a new heating system so are ideal for breaks the whole year round.

A full English breakfast is served in our airy dining room, which has been fully refurbished and Our menu offers a wide range of options including Norfolk sausages, free-range eggs, local bacon black pudding and kippers. Our dining room overlooks the lakes and grounds, and is a lovely place to relax for tea, coffee and a chat. Although we do not serve evening meals you can walk next door to the Mermaid Inn, which serves lunches, evening meals and bar snack in a family atmosphere.

Dereham Attractions

Bartles Lodge has three wonderful lakes - Victoria, Laura and Lizzie – each approximately an acre in size. They are spring fed with depths ranging from 2 to 8 feet. All are well stocked with both Mirror and Common carp (up to 20lb) tench, bream, perch, rudd and roach. Some baits are available on site as are fridges so residents can bring their own bait if they wish. There is a toilet block situated in the main building.

There’s something for everyone along Norfolk’s stunning coastline. North Norfolk with its wildlife marshes and never ending beaches is rugged and beautiful. Trips out could include bird watching at Cley marshes, a boat trip from Morston to Blakeney Point to see more wildlife including seals, lunch at Morston Hall run by the now infamous TV celebrity chef Galton Blackiston, shopping in Burnham market and a long walk along the beach at Holkham. Further round the coast you’ll find the timeless resorts of Sheringham and Cromer and miles of golden sandy beaches that stretch right round the coast to Great Yarmouth.

No trip to Norfolk would be complete without a trip the Broads. The Norfolk Broads is one of the most picturesque parts of England and offers perfect tranquillity and beauty for visitors. There’s something for everyone whether you are a keen fisherman, bird watcher, nature lover or in need of a relaxing break. For those who like to delve into the past Norfolk has a wealth of ancient sites and historic houses to visit. In the west of the county you’ll fine Grimes Graves a Neolithic flint works and Oxborough Hall a stunning moated National trust property. Other National Trust properties include Flebrigg Hall and Blicking Hall which is steeped in history and where Ann Bolynn's ghost is still said to roam. English Heritage also have several sites well worth a visit including the castle and priory at Castle Acre and Castle Rising near King's Lynn.
