Bed and Breakfast Description |
| |
|
Based around a former farmhouse dating back nearly 300 years, Holly Lodge features superbly designed guest cottages in the old stable block with wonderful gardens and a magnificent conservatory for you to relax in. Guests are accommodated in the converted stable block, following apparently something of a tradition...it is said that the stables were once regularly used as a stopover for pilgrims making their way to the shrines at Little Walsingham.
Original features have been uncovered and retained such as flagstone floors, beams and an inglenook fireplace. These are complimented by dramatic decor and furniture intended to make a stay at Holly Lodge an extra special treat. But we'd hate for the design and decor to get in the way. We try to keep Holly Lodge relaxed and unstuffy, combining its style with all the facilities and thoughtful touches we can to ensure a trouble-free, enjoyable visit. Our guest conservatory has comfy chairs, newspapers, local maps and free wireless internet connection so that you can plan your day, catch up with the world or check in with the office while you're away.
Adjacent to the house, Holly Lodge's en-suite guest cottages are in its former stable block. Each has been lavishly refurbished and individually styled. Country cottage has a New England feel, Colonial cottage far-eastern, nostalgic, tropical influences while Claret cottage has romantic medieval charm including a grand four-poster bed. Each cottage provides unique and comfortable accommodation for two, with an en-suite shower room, tea and coffee making facilities, colour television and sitting area, a complimentary bottle of wine, fruit and homemade cake. |

Fakenham Attractions |

North Norfolk is famous for its open countryside and big skies. Sparsely populated and largely unspoilt, its characteristic brick-and-flint villages are surrounded by miles of working farm land. Most of the coastline from the Wash to beyond Cromer is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, its unique saltmarsh habitat providing a haven for wildlife as well as spectacular walks, sailing and scenery. The area has long been popular with holiday makers and is well served by good restaurants and pubs and offers endless opportunities for visitors, from quiet relaxation to traditional seaside fun.
Being a little inland, Holly Lodge has the advantage of being away from the hustle and bustle of the fashionable hotspots on the coast during the Summer while being no real distance from them... you can easily pop up to the coast (five miles away) or stay inland to enjoy some of the uncrowded tranquility that really characterises the area. We are also perfectly placed for the great historic houses of Blickling, Holkham, Sandringham and Felbrigg, with Norwich just an hour away.
Not so many years ago, eating out in Norfolk was not something you would have done for pleasure but we're now blessed with a multitude of excellent places to eat. Some local suggestions are The Crawfish (1 mile), a converted pub serving terrific Thai food, The Norfolk Riddle in Walsingham (3 miles), the Carpenters Arms in Wighton (4 miles), recently refurbished without being too 'gastropub', the Three Horseshoes in Warham (4 miles), the Chequers at Binham (4 miles) and the recently refurbished Kings Head, in Letheringsett (5 miles). Bigger names in the area include The Crown in Wells, the Victoria at Holkham and Morston Hall and we'd also have to mention the White Horse in Blakeney, The Wiveton Bell and The Hunny Bell as some of our favourite pubs. |
