All rooms are spacious, warm and comfortable, have lovely views over the fells and are decorated and furnished to a high standard. During your stay you will enjoy the comforts of home. We have a lounge where guests can relax and watch television, or read the numerous guide books that are available (or perhaps plan the next days walking).

Hawes Attractions

East House is situated in the picturesque village of Gayle and overlooks the fells. Duerley Beck cuts the village in half and adds greatly to its attraction. Hawes is quite a busy little town famous for its Wensleydale Cheese that is made there. Restaurants, cafes and pubs are plentiful so there are no difficulties getting meals or sandwiches of any price range required. Market day is Tuesday. Why not pay a visit to Gayle Mill featured in the BBC Restoration Series 2004 and rescued from the brink of complete dereliction, it has now been restored to reveal every period in its history. The Dales Countryside Museum and the Rope Makers are also well worth seeing.

There are two very picturesque waterfalls: Gayle Force and Aysgill Force. Hardraw Force which is the highest single drop waterfall in the country. The force is only 2 miles away and is well worth a visit. Semmerwater is a lake of great interest and the third largest natural lake in Yorkshire. It is possible to park your car by the lakes edge. Aysgarth Falls a great favourite to all visitors, they descend in a series of broad steps along half a mile of the river flanked for most of the way by overhanging woods. Bolton Castle is of great historical interest as Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned there. The Castle is open to the public.

Tan Hill: the highest Inn in England. Buttertubs Pass, one of the most famous passes in the Yorkshire Dales, begins near Hardraw, crossing the tops to a point between Thwaite and Muker in Swaledale. The highest point on the pass is 1,726 feet. For the more active we are situated in a walkers paradise where there are numerous beautiful walks to suit all abilities. (Damp clothing and boots can be dried overnight in the boiler room). We count ourselves fortunate to be living in this beautiful region and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you and help you to have a memorable holiday.
