Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Sue and Bill Raper welcome you to Thornton Lodge Farm Bed and Breakfast and Country Sports. Our services from top quality farmhouse bed and breakfast accommodation to fun filled equestrian events. Situated in unbeatable surroundings on the edge of the Yorkshire moors and dales just outside Easingwold there are over 220 acres of glorious farmland along with first class facilities for human and equine visitors!

Thornton Lodge Farm offers secluded ground floor accommodation adjoining the main house. There is a private entrance for guests and two rooms are easily accessible by wheelchair (graded level 2 accessibility). Each bedroom has an en suite bathroom, television and a full beverage tray. There is a sunny south facing conservatory linked to the bedrooms which is solely for our guests’ use. It has views of the gardens, pond and open fields beyond and is a wonderful place to sit and plan your day’s activities or unwind with a cup of tea after a hard day’s sightseeing! Our award winning full English breakfast is served in the conservatory and includes some of the finest local meats and freshly laid eggs from the farm hens.

 

Easingwold Attractions

 
The Farm is located in rolling countryside between Easingwold and Coxwold surrounded by the Vale of York with views of the Minster and further over to the Pennines. The Yorkshire Dales are to the west and the North Yorkshire Moors to the east. Only a few miles north is the lovely market town of Thirsk where the World of James Herriot can be found.

Thornton Lodge Country Sports can offer an exhilarating day away from the stresses of work to come and relax, boost staff moral, improve team work and absorb beautiful surroundings in the heart of North Yorkshire. We offer fully qualified clay pigeon shooting instruction in a scenic surrounding. Clay pigeon shooting is available to the experienced and novice, with safe and considerate coaching on the fundamental understanding of good shotgun technique.

The two fresh water fly fishing lakes are set in tranquil surroundings covering a total area of 2.5 acres. The lakes are both well stocked with rainbow, brown and blue trout ranging in weight from 1 to 5lb.

Thornton Lodge Country Sports has approximately 90 variable cross country jumps covering the perimeters of 220 acres. There are 2 stream crossings and a unique selection of jumps through a small wood. The jumps are from: 1ft 6ins to 3ft 6ins. There is also a technical field which is available for hiring for schooling courses. This is ideal for Pony Clubs, Riding Clubs or private schooling sessions. The jumps in this field include arrow heads, corners, ditches, water complex and a variety of simple fences. The course is changed every year and also will be changed for competitions, new jumps are always being added offering plenty of variety to horses and riders.

Take the A19 to Easingwold. Take the sign to the Market Place. Follow the road through the Market Place it bends slightly to the right along Uppleby (grass either side of the road in front of the houses). Arrive at crossroads with a post box on your left, turn left here (signed Coxwold and Oulston). Go up the hill into the country and take the next turn left signed Thornton Hill. The road bends slightly to the right, look for 2nd right - signed Thornton Lodge Farm and Farmstay UK.
