Whitby Attractions

Surrounded by moorland and fields on three sides and the sea on the other. Over the centuries ‘Bay’ has seen many a shipwreck in the wild seas and smugglers hurrying between houses at the dead of night. 'Bay’ as it is known locally, is just 5 miles from Whitby, famous for being the home of Captain Cook and regularly visited today by the replica of his ship the ‘Endeavour’. With ‘Heartbeat’ country practically on the doorstep, and less than 15 miles from the bustling seaside town of Scarborough, there is always something to do in or around Bay, whether visiting for the annual ‘Folk’ and ‘Victorian’ weekends, or the Gospel weekend in Whitby. Or maybe you will reach Bay and dip your feet in the sea having bravely trodden the 190 mile ‘Wainwrights’ coast to coast walk from St. Bees.

The 'Grosvenor Hotel' is at the top of the village where the Victorians built their 'superior dwellings' and moved from the cramped 'cottages' in the lower part of 'Bay'. It is handy for the bus route, coastal and country walks and is only a two minute walk to the cliff edge, and a few minutes from the beach. It is opposite the tennis courts and bowls green and the main car-park is near by.

There are many walks and outstanding views to enjoy, and with much of the coastline now managed and owned by the National Trust and being within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, it is one of the most beautiful areas of England.

B&B Location

From Whitby:
Leave Whitby on the A171 Scarborough road and turn left at Hawsker onto the B1447 for 2.5 miles to ‘Robin Hood’s Bay’. As you come into the village, follow the road round past 'Mount Pleasant North' and the ‘Grosvenor Hotel’ is on the left opposite the car park entrance and Tennis courts on your right.

From Scarborough:
Follow the A171 to Whitby for about 14 miles; about half a mile beyond the B1416 signed to ‘Ruswarp’, turn right onto the road signed ‘Fylingthorpe’ and ‘Robin Hood’s Bay’. Proceed down the steep hill through Fylingthorpe, past the ‘Fylingdales Inn’ on the right and School and Fire Station on the left. At the 'T' junction turn left, past the village store on the right, past 'Mount Pleasant South' and the Grosvenor is on the right just as the road bends round to the right and opposite the tennis courts and entrance to the main village car park.

Nearest Railway Station: Ruswarp  (4.4  Miles)
