Bed and Breakfast Description

Mount Pleasant is set back half a mile from the road, amongst fields and open moorland, with picturesque gardens and a lawn tennis court. Geese, ducks, turkeys and ponies are a short walk from the house and are popular with our guests.

A warm and friendly welcome will always await you at Mount Pleasant. We have two bedrooms which include one twin and one double room with an additional single bed. The centrally heated rooms offer a colour television, hair dryer, trouser press and hospitality tray. Due to the age, layout and construction of Mount Pleasant we are unable to offer en-suite. However, both bedrooms are served by a spacious ground floor bathroom with bath, shower and w.c.

Delicious home cooked breakfasts are served in the dining room and an extensive menu of evening meals are available. The comfortable lounges with open fires and original beams provide the perfect spot in which to relax after an eventful day of sightseeing and activity. During sunny days the delightful gardens provide a haven of tranquility in which to take in the peace that surrounds you. A grass tennis court is available for those who wish to play a set or two!

York Attractions

Helmsley is a market town in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, on the river Rye. It lies on the A170, fourteen miles east of Thirsk across the notoriously steep Sutton Bank, which ascends the Hambleton Hills approximately midway between the two towns; it is also thirteen miles west of pickering. The Cleveland Way leads out of the town into the North York Moors. Towering over the town is its castle and other buildings. The town is associated with the Earls of Feversham whose ancestral home, Duncombe Park, was built overlooking the castle. A statue of William Duncombe, 2nd Baron Feversham stands in the town's square.

York is the traditional county town of Yorkshire, to which it lends its name. Traditionally the term City of York was reserved for the area within the city walls, but the modern City of York, created on April 1 1996, is much larger.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is a heritage railway in the North Yorkshire Moors. The 18 mile line is the second longest heritage line in the UK and runs from Pickering via Levisham, Newton Dale and Goathland to Grosmont. It is the middle section of the former Whitby, Pickering and York line which was closed in 1965 as part of the Beeching cuts. The trains run every day from the beginning of April to the end of October, plus selected dates through the winter. Trains are mostly steam hauled; however sometimes heritage diesel is used. Recently, over the summer months, steam services have extended to the seaside town of Whitby. Passenger numbers have topped 300,000 in recent years.
