Bed and Breakfast Description |
| |
|
We have a comfortable, newly refurbished, double room on the ground floor with digital TV, hairdryer, complimentary tea/coffee making facilities, and radio alarm clock. Guests have their own private access directly from the rear garden into the room, so you can come and go as you please. The room has an ensuite bathroom with bath, shower, WC and washbasin. Off-street parking is available and the house is only five minutes walk from the centre of the village where there is a good range of facilities.
In the mornings, breakfast can be served at a time to suit you, in our homely dining room. A full cooked breakfast is available, made from high quality, locally farmed ingredients. Dinner is not provided but there are several good eating establishments in the village.
Scarrscroft Bed and Breakfast is situated in the beautiful North Yorkshire village of Thornton le Dale and is in the North York Moors National Park. Within easy reach are not only the lovely North Yorkshire moors, including Goathland (Aidensfield in TV's Heartbeat), but also the Dalby Forest, Whitby and Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast, and the historic city of York. |

Pickering Attractions |
| |
Thornton le Dale, the Gateway to the North York Moors, is ideally situated for visiting a wide variety of places and taking part in various activities. The village itself is very attractive, with interesting buildings, the village green complete with stocks and market cross, the beck which runs alongside the main street and the village pond. In the centre of this thriving, picturesque village there are a number of gift shops, a motor museum, three tearooms, three pubs, bistro, fish and chip takeaway/restaurant, Chocolate Factory, newsagent, chemist, hairdressers and post office. There are numerous walks to be taken in and around the village and only one and a half miles away is the Dalby Forest where more walks are signposted, together with cycle trails, children's play parks, bike hire centre and "Go Ape" activity centre. There are also several good fishing lakes close by.
Being on the southern edge of the North York Moors, Thornton is also only a short drive from some of the most dramatic and beautiful scenery in England. The pretty village of Hutton-le-hole is a short drive away on the moors and is the location of the Ryedale Folk Museum. Not far from here is Rosedale Abbey, reached by arguably the steepest hill in England, Chimney Bank. A potentially hair-raising drive, but with great views from the top of the hill! A little further east is the village of Goathland, otherwise known as Aidensfield in TV's Heartbeat.
Within a half hour's drive are the coastal towns of Whitby and Scarborough and in the other direction, the city of York with its shops, tourist attractions and historic buildings. |

B&B Location

From the main Pickering to Scarborough road, the A170, turn onto Roxby Road (first road on the right in the village when coming from Pickering) then take second right into Farmanby Close. We are the sixth house on the left.
From the A169, after leaving the roundabout junction with the A64, turn right in 3.9 miles, signposted Thornton Dale and the Pottery. Continue along this road 4 miles then, on entering the village, turn left into Roxby Road (beware, it's just round a left hand bend), follow the road round to the right then take the SECOND turning marked Farmanby Close (just to confuse you, there are two!). We are then the sixth house on the left.
