Welcome to your own private sanctuary in the heart of Lancaster's old town, kick off your shoes and relax. Cocooned by our careful sound-proofing you choose - stay in or go out – the city is at your feet.
Our rooms are subtly understated but still include everything you would expect from a 4 star hotel (English Tourist Board) - large comfy beds, Italian bathrooms, satellite television and most rooms have large flat screen televisions. As befits a three hundred year old building, each one is unique and we have made the most of every little idiosyncrasy. There are 16 rooms to choose from - singles, doubles and twins, or push the boat out and try a luxury room or even the executive suite. Lancashire's best breakfast is included (available until a civilised 10.30am, 11am at the weekend). If you want to venture beyond your door, you will be welcomed downstairs in our friendly bar.
Famous for its hospitality and wide selection of cask ales and wines, our lovely old bar is frequented by a steady and diverse flow of people throughout the day. Attracting an eclectic array of guests from 18 to 80, the atmosphere is busy yet relaxed. We don't employ door staff, we don't need to.
Hotel guests and business breakfasters come in first thing to talk, relax or read the papers. After that it's shoppers coming in for a chat or people checking their emails over coffee. At lunchtime we're busy with customers who want to eat good food that has been sourced locally with our specials menu that changes every day. And in the evening we're filled with the friendly townsfolk of Lancaster – real ale enthusiasts, draught/bottled lager connoisseurs and wine lovers who come in to chat and enjoy the buzzing environment.
Turner, Charles Dickens and allegedly Bonnie Prince Charlie drank here in years gone by - you're in good company. |
