Our BNB is a local building of historic interest. We accept payment in cash. All or some rooms have ensuite facilities. Garden and/or patio area for guests Our establishment is gay friendly. Hairdryers are available in rooms or on request.
There is a leisure centre nearby. We're sorry, we do not accept pets. We have on-site parking. We have a residents lounge. There are scenic walks in the surrounding area. All rooms have a shaving socket.
Smoking is not permitted in the establishment. We accept Sterling Cheques. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities. All rooms have TV.

Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Unique Grade II listed dovecote set in beautiful gardens. Upstairs is a lovely bedroom, downstairs has shower room & living area.

We are in the perfect spot for visiting Hadrian’s Wall, less than 1/2 mile from Chesters Roman Fort, on the edge of the Northumberland National Park & close to the historic town of Hexham.

Our 18th century dovecote is unique self-contained B&B accommodation. It is set in an acre of beautiful gardens, just across the lane from our main family home. Fully refurbished in 2009. The dovecote provides luxury accommodation over 2 floors. Upstairs is now a beautiful bedroom for 2 people with lovely views over the garden & the open countryside. The room can be either twin or double (with a superking sized bed). There is a double shower room & living area downstairs with table & chairs,a kitchen area with sink,fridge & worktop to prepare cold snacks if you wish & tea/coffee making facilities.

We also have 2 ensuite rooms available in the main family home.

In the morning you can have a continental breakfast or we will prepare a hearty, locally produced, full English breakfast.

Outside, guests have use of a private south facing terrace & can relax in our garden, which includes a Georgian walled kitchen garden, lawned areas & a wildlife pond. Parking available & cycle store.

All major facilities can be found in Hexham 6 miles away. Local pubs serving homecooked meals only 1 mile away. Leisure club (open to the public) with gym, sauna & swimming pool also 1 mile away.

Hexham Attractions

 
We are located within easy reach of all the major attractions along Hadrian's Wall. We are less than half a mile from Chesters Roman Fort and within a few minutes of Housesteads, Steel Rigg and Vindolanda. The Hadrian's Wall Bus, which often has a guide on board, stops at the bottom of our lane.

The lovely historic market town of Hexham is just down the road and has an Abbey whose crypt dates from AD 675 and a 14th century Old Gaol.

Just to the north lies Kielder Water, the largest man-made lake in Europe, where you can sail, take a ferry and go for magnificent walks or cycle rides through the forest and around the reservoir. You can also admire the many artworks located around the Kielder area.

To the east Newcastle and Gateshead are only 30 minutes away with their famous Quayside and the shopping delights of the Metro Centre.

To the north of the city lies the spectular Northumberland coast with its castles and windswept sandy beaches.

Directions by car: Heading west along Hadrian’s Wall (B6318) take the 1st right (up a narrow lane) just a few metres after the entrance to Chesters Roman Fort. Go up the lane and we are at the top of the hill.

Directions by car: Heading east along Hadrian’s Wall (B6318) take the 1st left (up a narrow lane) after the turn for Chesters Garden and before the entrance to Chesters Roman Fort. Go up the narrow lane and we are at the top of the hill.


Arriving by plane at Newcastle Airport: Please arrange with us at the time of booking and we can pick you up from the airport. It is only a 20 minute drive from our house

Arriving by train in Newcastle: There are connections to Hexham or please arrange with us at the time of booking and we can pick you up from the station

Arriving by train in Hexham: The Hadrians's Wall bus runs from the station to Chester's Fort. We are 1/2 mile up the hill from there (see Directions by car). Or please arrange with us at the time of booking and we can pick you up from the end of the lane or at the station
