Jedburgh Attractions |
| |
The Royal and Ancient Burgh of Jedburgh (often referred to locally as “Jedhart”) forms a historic gateway to Scotland and is dominated by the magnificent 12th century Augustinian Abbey with its dedicated visitor centre. Steeped in history, Jedburgh boasts both a 19th century Howard Reform prison (with a local history interpretation centre and audio tours) and a 16th century residence of Mary Queen of Scots, with beautiful gardens.
Hutton’s Unconformity, which forms the basis of our knowledge of modern geology, was discovered in Jedburgh by James Hutton in the 18th century. Interpretation panels and a modern sculpture explaining this geological feature can be found in the main abbey car park. The Unconformity consists of layers of sedimentary rock which are tilted almost vertically and covered by newer horizontal layers of red sandstone.
There are many way-marked pathways around Jedburgh to suit walkers, mountain bikers and horse-riders of all abilities. There is also a 18-hole golf-course, a leisure centre (pool, water-walkers, steam room, and gym, and a sports centre (tennis, badminton, squash).Horse-riding lessons or hack for experienced riders can be booked at the nearby Langlee stables.
A good range of local shops (is supplemented by a Farmer’s Market on the first Friday of every month (9:30 – 1:30 in the Market Square),
Younger visitors will love the Jed-Forest Deer and Farm Park, just 2 miles from Glenacre.
Harestanes Countryside Visitor Centre near Ancrum (4 miles fro Jedburgh) is excellent for families, with its playground, indoor games room, café, exhibitions, nature walks etc, and is also an excellent base for walking. There are some excellent craft workshops/shops at Harestanes- leather, tiles, cane and wood. Open from 1st April – 31st October,10:00 to 17:00, although you can park there all year round as a walking base (Tel: 01835 830306).

B&B Location
|
| |
Glenacre is 250mtrs from the main Newcastle to Edinburgh A68 route, on a quiet country lane, 4 miles south of Jedburgh.
If you are coming from Newcastle on the A68, you will pass through (in seconds!) a small place called Camptown. About a mile after that, there is a speed camera and a sign to the right for the Jedforest Hotel. We are the next turn on the right, after the hotel turn. Glenacre is then about 200mtrs on the right.
If you are coming from Jedburgh, we are just under 4 miles to the south off the A68. There is a brown tourist sign (camping and caravaning) to the left, we are in there, again, 200mtrs on the right.
