Bed and Breakfast Description |
| |
|
The perfect place to relax in the beautiful Shropshire countryside near Shrewsbury, the Shropshire Hills and the Welsh Borders and get away from the pressures of modern day life. Barley Mow House stands in 2 acres of gardens and pastureland with a large car parking area. We are 1/4 mile from the nearest main road in a quiet rural setting 10 miles west of Shrewsbury beside the Stiperstone Hills and the Long Mountain and close to the Welsh border. Barley Mow House started life 400 years ago as a 17th Century farmhouse built from local stone with several outbuildings A Malt House was added some 200 years later, along with the Georgian front, and served as a public house until 1991 when it was tumed into a beautíful private house. The house is set in an acre of garden, with a 1 1/2 acre of field.
There are three very different en-suite bedrooms, all very well finished with central heating, tea/coffee tray, colour television and hair-dryer. Iron and ironing board are available on request.
The Studio Bedroom: this is situated in the old Malthouse and has a wealth of oak beams. It is a large bedroom on two levels, with double bed and a single bed and is ideal as a family room. It has an adjoining room with a further single bed and spacious en-suite bathroom incorporating bath and overbath power shower, washbasin, toilet and bidet.
17th Century Farmhouse Bedroom: this is a sunny bedroom with views over the Stiperstones and surrounding countryside. It has a king-size bed and its own landing and bathroom.
The Library Bedroom: this is a groundfloor room. It is another large bedroom with double bed, en-suite shower room with toilet and washbasin. There is also a walk-in wardobe. The room has views to the front of the house overlooking the fishpond and with soothing rural views over the fields. The bird-table is visited by many local birds, including Lesser-Spotted Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Great Tits, Chaffinches etc. |

Situated on the border with Wales, the surrounding area is one of both Outstanding Natural Beauty and historical interest.
For those who enjoy walking and the great outdoors we are ashort drive away from the Stiperstones Hills National Nature Reserve, famous for the "Devil's Chair" at its rock-strewn summit as well as its spectacular views over the Welsh Marches and the Cheshire Plains.
Explore the newly opened Leadmines at Snailbeach, or for a sporting day out, why not try your hand at shooting on the nearby Minsterley Ranges.
There are a number of nearby castles to explore from the magnificent Powys Castle and grounds at nearby Welshpool, as well as at Shrewsbury Castle, Montgomery, Ludlow and Stokesay, near Craven Arms.
Also at Craven Arms is the new and highly acclaimed Discovery Centre where you can see the famous Shropshire Mammouth and experience a simulated balloon flight, whilst nearby is the Acton Scott Historic Working Farm - an ideal day out for both adults and children.
If you would like to experience the real thing, combine a weekend away with a flight with Espiritu Balloon Flights Ltd at nearby Plox Green, Minsterley.
Alternatively, pay a visit to historic Ironbridge, the home of Abraham Derby and the birthplace of the industrial revolution, now a World heritage Site. The Visitor Centre at Blists Hill offers visitors the chance to walk over the World's first bridge made from iron and to spend a day or more experiencing the open-air musuem and ceramics musuems, stepping back in time to a period when Britain led the World in technology. |
