Bed and Breakfast Description

 

The Halfway House is a 16th Century Inn, of some notoriety. The Inn was first licensed in 1620 & was originally known as the Old Red Lion Inn. The name was changed to The Halfway House following a visit by Princess Victoria in 1823. Whilst on a stop to change horses en route from Pitchford Hall to Great Witley Court, she asked where she was. The reply was given "halfway there". Since this date the Inn has been known by its' present name. The oldest part of the building also boasts a wonderful example of an Elizabethan wall mural that has been preserved behind glass for all to see.

Peter & Cecile Williams have been at The Halfway House since 1997 & have been successful hoteliers since the summer of 1965. They are well known for both the quality & quantity of their locally sourced home cooked food. There is a hearty breakfast to sustain the majority of appetites, a bar menu for weekend lunchtimes and an a la carte dinner menu.

Accommodation for groups of up to 40 people includes double, twin & triple en-suite rooms and family cottages. A fully licensed 10 Pitch Touring Caravan park, with an adjacent area for tents, is situated in the grounds of the Inn.

Golf, fishing and many other activities can easily be arranged, given advance notice.

Shropshire is one of England's loveliest counties with magnificent scenery, bustling market towns & a colourful history of border warfare which provide a stirring background to some fascinating attractions. We have some excellent Golf Courses where Woosie, Sandy Lyle, Scott Drummond, Jonathon Lomas and Peter Baker learnt their game.

You could also choose from fishing, cycling, quad biking, clay pigeon shooting with tuition, canadian kayaks & train spotting on the Severn Valley steam railway.
