Bed and Breakfast Description

 

Welcome to Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast. A warm welcome awaits you at Hawkins Grange Farm in Datchworth. All refurbished, non-smoking guest rooms are self-contained on the first floor and have far-reaching views over the open countryside. Single, twin or double occupancy available. There are two en-suite rooms, and two rooms which share a beautiful separate guest bathroom.

Our guest's comfort and our standards of cleanliness are a high priority at Farmhouse B&B. Mattresses are of medium to firm rating and all have thick snugglers and mattress/pillow protectors. Our ecological cleaning policy means that there are no odorous or highly perfumed smells from cleaning products.

To help guests who need round-the-clock access to e-mails & the internet, we now have our own Wireless Internet facility, together with a chair & table for your laptop. We are centrally located to serve the Herts industrial & commercial bases.

At Hawkins Grange Farm, our principal activity is hay-making. The surrounding land is used to make hay which is sold to local and national farmers in England, Scotland and Wales. We keep nineteen chickens and two horses (Oliver & Liniker). All fresh eggs used for breakfast are from our own free-range chickens. You may spot a few wild pheasants, the occasional roaming fox or you may choose to sit back, relax and listen to the tranquil sounds of bird-song.

 

Knebworth Attractions

 
Datchworth is an attractive village situated between Welwyn Garden City (4 miles south) and Stevenage (4 miles north). The village is made up of a number of smaller villages that over time have all but merged into one. Such villages include Datchworth, Datchworth Green and Painters Green. On the green, be sure to check both sides of the impressive village sign - it has wonderful pictures telling the history of the village and what it means to live in Datchworth. The sign was erected in 2000 to mark the millennium. Also on the village green is The Whipping Post. Still visible but protected behind bars, The Whipping Post was used for public floggings until 27th July 1665.

At the crossroads in the village are two pubs situated opposite each other - The Tilbury (The Inn on the Green) and The Plough . Also at the crossroads are the village shop and the post office. Datchworth Museum is situated near to The Plough and explains the history of the village with objects donated or lent by local people.

The village has many active sports clubs. On summer weekends at Datchworth Green you will see Datchworth Cricket Club playing matches. Datchworth Tennis Club runs 2 outdoor tennis courts on the green. Datchworth Bowls Club competes in a local league and has a modern clubhouse. Datchworth Rugby Club also plays in a local league.

The village church - All Saints Church - is situated about 1/2 mile from the village green and crossroads. The church is situated on a hill and the church spire can be seen from many miles away. A flower festival takes place at the church in the summer.

At the 2nd roundabout go straight on towards Watton at Stone
Turn right at mini roundabout
Go into the village, turn left at mini roundabout by the old pump (signposted Datchworth)
Leave the village and continue towards Datchworth
As you approach Datchworth, take the turning on the right (signposted Hawkins Hall lane/Church)
Hawkins Grange Farm is the second entrance on your right

Directions from A1(M) (coming from the South):
Exit at junction 6
Take 2nd exit at roundabout (A1000)
Take 2nd exit at next roundabout (A1000)
Take 3rd exit at next roundabout (B197 Knebworth)
Continue for about 1.5 miles
Down the hill, take right turn opposite Chequers pub (signposted Datchworth)
Follow the road into Datchworth, straight on at the crossroads by the pub
Take next turning on your left (signposted Hawkins Hall Lane/Church)
Hawkins Grange Farm is the second entrance on your right
